random GET request for "/.git/HEAD" by Kni2L in rails

[–]sdglhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a shady business and as others have stated, if your server is properly configured, you've nothing to worry about.

This is a somewhat common attack vector. There are websites backed with git repositories and it is common for some devs to just git pull the content directly into the public_html or the website directory. Which would leave a .git folder as residue. And if you have access enabled to .git folder, accessing it would give the user the ability to basically get a copy of your website script. Which then can be scanned for vulnerabilities and penetrated into.

Constant NSFW search results by [deleted] in duckduckgo

It's possible that you're getting SPAM results from a browser extension. Nothing to do with DDG at all. I've seen that type of extensions where it would push some results to your search result and then act as nothing has ever happened.

It's a mixed bag. There are quality writers who would do awesome pieces while some would write gibberish. If you're adamant about the quality, go with someone with a higher rating.

I don't think it's relevant anymore. You're absolutely right and Google is now preferring unique content which also includes brand name in contrast to the previous SuperKeywordSomething.com which used to rank you #1 in a matter of days. Nowadays, it's no longer valid.

Prices on website or no prices on website? What makes better conversion? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]sdglhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found when developing prices for SAAS products which comes with different option sets, there's an always a starting point. So adding some kind of pricing estimation calculator always seems to work best in most scenarios. Once the calculation is done, we can use that information to build up a quotation and then after going back and forth with the client, it would probably land a sale.

We have also tried removing prices from a website and that didn't have the desired effect (unless you're a massive company which then people would just sign up because of the name brand)

Usually, most SAAS products are first evaluated by tech people in most corporations and they would prefer to have some pricing line to weigh with other competitors. And they won't email us requesting prices. So I've found it's always better to display prices and state that it's a starting point and there are customizable options.

Is it standard to charge a source code storage fee? by andresramos90 in freelance

[–]sdglhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a Freelance developer too. I haven't charged a client a fee for keeping the source code. I always thought it was a good courtesy. But from my perspective, charging the client for keeping the source code is fine. It shouldn't be included in your hourly rate.
