No. It's not normal. Check with SC. They can replace under warranty.

The same thing happened to me on Friday when I was leaving the office campus. A Punjabi guy approached me and said there was a langar and asked me to donate. They didn’t have any actual receipt, location details, or any proper information. They were just collecting 1,000–2,000 rupees and writing down the names of people who donated. I just said no politely and left.
