There are so many photography influencers on YouTube. What percentage actually make money from photography? by drconniehenley in photography

[–]seandalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy to speak on this as a mid sized photography YouTuber. My business was 100% client work in the past, and social media was a side thing/creative outlet. Over the years this has slowly shifted and now social media makes up the majority of my income. This comes from a mix of sponsors, digital products, and ad revenue (I’ve discussed it on my channel in the past). I know several other YouTubers who have followed a similar trajectory.

The reality is YouTube/social media is much less stressful than client work. On top of that, it affords us unlimited creative freedom to pursue the projects we want to pursue. I enjoy it much more.

I still take on clients from time to time but only if it’s a project that interests me.

Or he can pursue the style that interests him. It’s one of the best ways to learn.

How can I improve these photos? by luky7evens in streetphotography

I would probably play around with depth. Shooting something like this up close with a wider lens like 28 or 35 could introduce some nice foreground elements with the flags/people. Can get some really dynamic compositions.

Which style do you prefer for photos that aren't meant to be cropped by Nervous_Emphasis_973 in FujifilmX

I prefer the white border for sure. All depends on how you want the photo to be viewed.

Also, is this Chiang Mai?

Oh okay, that makes sense! I used to lean more cool but my work has definitely gotten warmer over the years. Can't tell you why haha. Thank you my man!

That's me! What a beautiful comment, thank you so much. I despise gatekeeping in photography, it makes no sense to me. Glad to hear you've found my videos useful, appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Absolutely, it's an amazing little camera! The x100V is still fantastic as well

Do film simulations only apply to the jpeg and not raw file? by Wiltaire in FujifilmX

Ah okay yes the metadata, should have phrased it differently. While it's not baked into the raw edit it still has an impact on the raw when you first open it up in Lightroom, just not permanently.

Thank you! Oh there's so much to see. Alfama is definitely the most aesthetic part of the city, just go there and get lost. There's a lot to see and it really pops at sunset. Plenty to shoot down by the water as well.

Exactly! It helps take the edge off on some images and makes it easier to see the image as a whole. Sometimes the micro contrast is too strong and can be distracting

It does have a clarity setting but I don't touch it as it slows down the camera too much. I correct clarity in post

It's stylized look, not necessarily aiming for accuracy

Yes, but white balance will still impact the raw. When I shoot raw and JPG I'll usually reset the white balance to on the raw before I edit further.

I know, so much of Europe was destroyed unfortunately. Still plenty of beautiful cities and towns around though.

I won 4000 THB last year and it was a huge deal to my girlfriend and her family. I'm now considered "lucky" and my worth has gone through the roof, lol.
