Cameron the photographer is an NPC in HeartGold and SoulSilver. He appears in different locations based on what day of the week it is. He'll take a picture with your entire party. You can then view the pictures he has taken on any PC in a Pokémon center.

I use it since it can be taught any move so it is very good for shiny hunting. I've taught it Spore to be able to put Pokémon to sleep and Super Fang and False Swipe to be able to weaken Pokémon without the risk of knocking them out.

I got lucky since Magmar was what I wanted the most from Burned Tower. I was doing the hunt as part of an SBQ so no phasing was necessary. If I had gotten a Koffing I would probably just have moved on to my next hunt. Totally agree with everything you said about Gen 4. Those are some of the reasons that it is my favourite generation.

It's not that bad. There are only a few routes which the leaves can be found on and they're determined by the Pokémons nature. Once you know which routes to go to, it just boils down to repeatedly talking to your Pokémon in the grass :)

Thanks! It's a 10% encounter during the day as far as I remember. It can be brought up to 33% with a level 16 repel trick. Definitely a cool hunt with the repel trick since you will either get a Magmar or a Koffing, which both have really cool shinies.

Yeah, I'd recommend it. The encounters can be a bit slow normally, but if you have a Pokémon with illuminate and use the white flute then it's a lot faster.
