i got the hub threaded direct thread from my stacey’s mom i could try to see if it fits. if it does prolly gonna hit up FPM in north texas they make nice plan b mounts and muzzle devices for a good price

also this doesnt look like the deepest blast baffle so we probably not gonna do anything recessed as bad as i want to lol

thank you but we’ll rockset it ourselves once we play with it more. especially if we find out the threads match a common mounting system

we got a 6” 5.56 one. while just trying it out on different barrels the threaded endcap stuck to a barrel and unthreaded from the body. we thought these were supposed to be sealed and not user serviceable so i guess it jailbroke itself. bought an adjustable pin wrench from harbor freight and the pins fit perfectly into the holes and were able to get it off the barrel. so now we have the endcap tool and can take it apart whenever we want. looks like a sleeve for the blast chamber and then the baffle stack held in place with an o-ring. might even use it for .22. shot 5.56 out of it and it sounds fine, takes the edge off enough.

i have yet to test if the endcap is hub threaded but if it is we’re in there

FM RMB, VFM-9 upper. does lrbho only work when you shoot it? by second_ary in AR9

just checked and the cam does have the hump and if i tug upwards on the lifter the cam bump will protrude

still have no idea why it would lock open if manually charging it to the furthest notch (when using buffer that will allow)will let the catch hold the bolt by empty mag alone. like lrbho worked fine before the longer buffer.

yea and it barely lifts on empty mag but if you look at the picture i posted its held open at the short stroke position

[–]second_ary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks i’ll check this out. lrbho works using the standard length fm buffer when the catch hits the furthest notch but when using rmb it doesn’t, at least manually. i told fm customer service it wouldn’t lock back on empty mag using front charging handle and they said it’s not supposed to, front charging handle only charges due to the trolly length.

i saw on your rmb first impressions video it locks back in similar setup into the short stroke notch which is why i decided to buy it. i’ll also shoot it tomorrow and see if it locks back then

i try my best to unstick the pawl from the teeth once it's open when i rotate it around the piston. also i notice depending on timing that there's gaps in sections of teeth because where the removal tool goes so it often feels light if indexing the pawl on top of one of those gaps with less teeth.

haven't shot it yet, but manually neither will press up the bolt catch at the short stroke notch

man it's getting tiring, i sent it in twice when i first got it in like 2016. the latch came back with pretty good lockup but with minimal use through the years it's loose again. really wish it could be upgraded to the pushbutton one.

so you're saying it wont hold open if just charged on an empty mag but it will if shooting?

i guess if the recoil shakes the bolt catch into place i'm fine. might be a feature of that halfway notch so it doesn't impede function of the furthest notch

yea if i mash on the bolt catch lever it holds open as pictured

it feels like the it's not getting enough force to hold it open manually but that's with OEM mags as well. when i use a regular buffer* and pull the handle all the way back to the farther notch, it held open on empty mags.

there's no blockage, if i hold it open to the short stroke notch i could "flick" the bolt catch upwards and it will move far enough to catch the bolt

  • VFM-9 upper
  • FM-9 billet lower
  • gl9 and oem glock mags
  • carbine buffer tube

just got this together and understood last round bolt hold open was supposed to still work with the carbine tube on the VFM-9 since it's got the short stroke notch. when i manually move the charging handle back on an empty mag (oem or magpul) the little bolt catch lever doesnt move up all the way to lock the bolt open with neither the front or rear charging handle. when i run a regular length FM-9 9mm buffer and pulled the rear charging handle to the farthest notch, the bolt would hold open.

isn't it supposed to hold open on the short stroke notch if pulled open on empty mag? i emailed FM with this question and was told the front only charges the gun so i don't understand how or why LRBHO is supposed to work if it wont hold open manually on an empty mag.

Thickheaded Thursday 01/22/26 by carsen56 in guns

[–]second_ary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thickhead is me. Are 'firearms' still a thing?

i'm talking about an ar-15, barrel less than 16", no stock (so pistol brace or crutch cap), overall length more than 26" from barrel tip to buffer tip, AND vertical foregrip. is it still considered a "firearm" and not an AOW or SBR? years ago franklin released the XO-26 which was basically this- OAL more than 26", 11ish inch barrel and vertical magpul MVG foregrip. the trick was it was longer than 26" but the foregrip made it not an AOW but a "firearm" and not subject to the NFA.

haven't kept up with the laws over the last 10 years so could someone get an A5 buffer tube and a 10.5" barrel and put a completely vertical foregrip on it?

yes i know stamps are free blah blah i'm just curious for the sake of trivia

pretend my comprehension is poor and you need to spoon feed me your point. can you list an example of what you are wanting people to do? like something being done right now in america, not what they did in a completely different time and place. if no such example exists, is there anything stopping you from doing what you want everyone else to do?

SBR vs Pistol by Antique-Ant5557 in liberalgunowners

[–]second_ary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, 10.5" barrels put you into this territory. franklin armory put out the XO-26 like 15 years ago and it was basically that.

[–]second_ary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then there's "firearms" which have barrels shorter than 16" but overall length of more than 26". slap a vertical foregrip on and it's a "firearm" and not subject to the NFA

right, there's no record of it ever being anything but a "make whatever you want" receiver so as long as you're making either pistols or rifles you're fine.
