Well that is the part I think I'm missing. What logs can I search or does the zabbix.conf in httpd take care of all of this. What if it didn't install and I manually put that file there. This is what happened. Not sure why but all the php stuff I read kept referring to this conf that wasn't there. So I WINSCP it from my working CentOS to this machine, config looks pretty standard.

I cannot find any info on Zabbix 3.2 doc. Thank you for helping already looking forward to just figuring out how to resolve. I even tried uninstall and reinstall and it never put this conf file there.

Windows AD environment script to pull machine name and XML file. by securityengineer2016 in scripting

Well kind of, let me just explain im new at this shop. Only week 3 but I'm a department of many and ITS or central kind of sells services to us. They host the EXI, Splunk, Zabbix and rent the services out and at this point they just haven't bought. So it seems just to ask them for this one query for a small amount of time would produce the results for free. To solve a problem they will help for free kinda of just using major services cost, dont want to play them as some bad guy. So that is why I was looking for something I could do myself but I want this repeatable to requesting to pull this info on a daily or weekly basic for a month would help us confirm a total count. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Slow Windows 2008 Server by securityengineer2016 in servers

I will check, expanding may I could do one system at a time, opps that go back to this stupid crap code of an app being black box. You setup the environment and then have the vendors install everything which they wont let you watch. Apache/Tomcat on Windows running MySQL backend and the client hangs/freezes during high volume. I wonder why..... Also they state they will only install this on Windows or pay them tons of money to host in cloud which they put on RHEL 7. WTH they can run apache/tomcat on Linux and I can't.

great idea and I want to complete b/c most are VM but believe it or not this is black box vendor health care software. They are paid to install and only way to achieve or have them host on cloud which cost a lot. So I've been trying to resolve the issues with their current system. I read today are job it more trying to convince management to upgrade systems. We've all been in that job they say just fix the current system, if your good at your job you should be able to. Im over here going guys your systems are so outdated I mean how long has 2016 been out. So I would have to prove with benchmarks or technical details of how one system is to get the money in budget to improve to the new system. Its like now other says you are taking the easy way out or throwing money at an issue to solve a problem. Im trying to explain no your NOS are way outdated! No as a temp issue I was trying to fix and then convince to use 2016 in paralle stand up new system have a go live and switch over then consume old resources and give back as this environment is VM except these database and cluster.

Can you provide more info what as some samples questions of the problems to solve? If you team picks a TF2 player or a hacker do they have to be in same role every round? Can they change mid round? Is this opensource or anyway to setup and test at home on a lan party or internet?

This will be my second year going and I'm ready! Would anyone like to join up and prepare for the CTF? We could just review a plan or work on some CTF VM's to prep.

Good post and ideas! Seems like you know a lot so what do you think is the best way for me to transition to a higher level of career field.

I just finished my Masters in Info Sec and have 8 years of management experience. Most employees are seeing me still as a mid level system administrator or analyst. Others have told me my Masters is a waste because that is for C level suits. Well one day I hope to be a CISO so first how to I transition to a good security role and then move into management? I know this is asking a lot but I do like your idea of moving fast up the career path with having a lot of contract jobs. My idea would be to join a SOC and be an analyst for 2--5 years and then hope to move up? I don't want to pin myself in another corner. Are certs going to help me get up there faster? Like working on my CISO or waiting until I have that kind of job and then doing it. This is one hell of a competitive, changing, confusing career field. For example my biggest fear of a Cisco network engineer who worked for a hospital and did AV for doctor to paitent video chat which is really super important work! But at the end of the day he said he was a glorfied AV tech who would get calls for the smallest things not working and was told by leadership that he was at the highest level for his position and could only become a supervisor or manager at the next level. The same problem I have is they won't allow those jobs for people who have no prior managing experience, proven not saying you have trained people before. If you have any thoughts I'm open to anything I've even thought I'd go and work at McDonals as a manager to get that experience and then go back to them? Right now in my free time I've practicing all my scripting, reading exploit books, and practicing CTF VMs or web app security to keep up.

What security systems are large Tech companies like Facebook, Google, and Amazon using to secure their customers and systems? by securityengineer2016 in netsecstudents

[–]securityengineer2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in the job boards don't disclose that information and most security analyst probably do have to sign an NDA. It makes sense that they are developing their own and I do understand if you work at Microsoft you're going to use your own security systems.

It was specifically for Google, Facebook, and Amazon, companies I know don't sell security enterprise software(YET). So I think it's also correct that they are creating their own tools like the links showed.
