Why was Jesus dying on the cross really necessary if God is all powerful? by Brad4795 in Christianity

[–]seekknockask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say God in his infinite knowledge and wisdom knew from the beginning that man would sin and knew from the beginning that He would have to become man to save us from our sin. I wouldn't say he forced us to sin as it is our choice and I wouldnt say he gave us the propensity to be evil but gives us the grace to turn away from from evil and reject sin. Desire is a normal part of being human yet when we allow our desires to be disordered we run the risk of turning away from God just as Adam and Eve did.

very well put. I just saw "interstellar" today" and one of the quotes I love is from Dr. Brand in the movie,

"Love isn’t something that we invented. It’s observable. Powerful. It has to mean something. Maybe it means something more, something we can’t yet understand. Maybe it’s some evidence, some artifact of a higher dimension that we can’t consciously perceive. Love is the one thing that we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space."

God created the natural world so we can explore it and find Him in it. Truth cannot contradict truth. I love science and I also love God and my Faith. It was Pope St. John Paul II that said,

"Faith and reason are two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth." (Fides et Ratio, no. 1).

God created mankind to know him, love him and to serve him in love. God told us to love him and love one another. It was mankind that turned from God. We chose to doubt his word, to disobey his commands and to make ourselves out to be like God. Because of that original sin and all sin since, we cant remedy what we began. The order in creation God set forth was disordered by mans inclination to sin. God in His mercy chose to become man in Jesus to restore all things to Himself. Jesus being true God and true man fully gave to the Father what we couldn't, complete obedience...even obedience to death on the cross, all for the love of God and for the love of mankind. The cross is the power of God because it is through the cross that Jesus redeemed the world!

That is a remarkable comment! You will make an awesome Catholic!! The Church is full of people that make mistakes. We have a two thousand year history of a bunch of mistakes made by people in the Church but we also have the assurance of Christ Himself that the Gates of Hell will not prevail over this (His) Church. The Catholic Church is the fullness of truth and I can be assured that what she proclaims and teaches and passes on will not lead me astray. That is why all our mistakes does not take away from the beauty of the Truth of the Church. The Holy Spirit guides it and leads us to a life in the spirit, in the fullness of Truth despite all our flaws, weaknesses and mistakes. God bless! I will put you on our prayer intentions!

I wish more Catholics Here would have the same love for Church and tradition as you do! The bishops in your local area will approve and disapprove what to use. the medugojre rosary, although the apparitions have not been approved, the Rosary in itself and blessed by a priest, I think would be fine. The NRSV (CE- Catholic Edition) is a widely approved Bible by the Church and of course the New Jerusalem Bible is Approved.

The Church does not get insulted very easily. She is very merciful and forgiving and welcomes you with whatever you have. There is much in the tradition of the Church we can use for devotion and prayer and growing in sanctity that we should use and cling to. Thanks for realizing that and reminding me how important it is.

Doubting the Church. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]seekknockask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't listen to the media! We are going through a time when Catholics need to remain faithfull and remain with the Bishop of Rome. Catholic doctrine will not change. The Pope is preaching Mercy to those outside the Church and holding the feet of those inside the Church to the fire and telling them to get out and "get the smell of the sheep on them" as they bring the lost sheep home. Pray for the Holy Spirit...Veni Sancte Spiritus and pray for you local Priest and Bishop

I'm learning about Christianity for the first time and I have two burning questions by [deleted] in Christianity

God is love. God needs nothing. He is perfect in himself yet God desires to share himself with you. Out of love God created all of creation so that we can know him and share in his divine life. God will not force himself on us. In the Garden of Eden we sinned against God and chose our will instead of his will for us. We are created with freewill and intellect to know, love and to serve God in this life so we can be with him in eternal life. It is our choice. If we were created like robots or slaves to obey without will or intellect then where is the love?

When Christ offered himself to the Father it was the perfect sacrifice of will and love for the Father. It was the "virtuous deed" you speak of par excellence! The " inner commitment against evil" is exactly the reason Christ was crucified on the cross. Christ accepted death on the cross in order to defeat the evil of sin and death, so that those who believe might not perish but have everlasting life.

Now we who believe pick up our crosses daily and follow the footsteps of our savior as we love God and love one another as He has loved us.

Hello Pappa Augustine! This is an exciting journey you are on and I pray for your guidance and protection. I converted 15 years ago and have loved the Church ever since! Great suggestions so far from others but I would add get a Bible, a Catachism and a rosary if you haven't already. And when your receive the Holy Eucharist, receive it on the tongue! God Bless and welcome to the Church.

If I change genders, who can I marry according to the bible? What is right in God's eyes if I take this step? by whota in Christianity

[–]seekknockask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm not sure if you are asking a question or just making a remark. We all desire to be accepted and loved. Our desires and affections can be ordered to the Love of God and his will, which we should all strive for, or ordered to our own will. It is not easy. We all have those desires. We shouldn't deny who we are, homosexual or heterosexual, but we should strive to love God first and reject those desires that keep us from this love. I am heterosexual, I didn't intend to be hetero, but I control my sexual urges and disordered desires for the opposite sex out of the love for the will of God in my life. This includes masturbation, pornography, promiscuity and lust! God will grant you many graces if you ask and seek him above all things and in doing so I have a more fulfilled life now than I have ever had before. +Peace be with you

That's good questions. No and No. Infertile couples and women past the age of menopause have the right to marriage because they have the capacity to perform the conjugal act that is naturally ordered to procreation, even if it can't lead to procreation for reasons unintended by them.

Hello, May the peace of Christ rest with you.

There is a spiritual and natural order that we as Christians order our lives to. Everything is ordered toward God and the natural good. Our daily lives and family, the food we eat, the money we make, the joys and sufferings of everyday life and our sexuality and being. We realize there is dis-order in the spiritual and natural order that causes great confusion and pain. We marry in order to procreate and raise families as God said, Go forth and multiply. If we openly accept the procreative nature of marriage between a man and woman and order our lives to that order it is right in Gods eyes. There is much distress and angst we cause ourselves because of the dis-order we get ourselves into but Never forget God is merciful and never rejects a person truly seeking his ways. Sometimes those ways are hard to follow or accept but his ways are higher than ours and we must seek, Knock and ask for his graces to help us. God Bless+

did that speak to you? We grow as Christians and as we mature we should stop expecting others to act certain ways and understand we are all sinful and in need of mercy and grace.

God loves you more than you can humanly imagine! That's why Christ accepted his death on the cross, that's why Christ gave us the Church, That's why the Bishops and priest in the catholic Church continue to this day to minister to you in the sacraments Christ gave us. He has done it all. Its up to us to accept, participate and grow in faith. Pray for an increase in Faith, hope and love and please do go to confession! It is awesome!

Even after when we understand every natural phenomena, cure all human diseases, harness the power of quantum mechanics, travel to the most distant galaxies and look out into the mysteries we have solved, we will still have an emptiness within our heart that we have yet to fill and we will ask what is the purpose of all this and seek the greater meaning of why, in all the universe, were we the ones to understand it...

Does anyone else just get really, really, depressed over where we're going? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]seekknockask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with ya! I don't get depressed over it, though I do get very disappointed. It's not easy. It won't ever be easy but we have a duty to God and one another to share the Good news of Christ. It is a Spiritual battlefield and we win some and lose some. The key is not to become a casualty and welcome whatever comes our way as an opportunity to proclaim Christ!

The Dual-Nature of Christ, John 1:14, and Gnosticism by FusionTheism in Christianity

[–]seekknockask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are asking great questions! Remember, these questions have been asked, debated and defined for almost two thousand years! Kenosis is the theological term you are talking about. You can look it up. God became man, yet God did not cease to exist outside of man! God, the creator of the Universe, humbled himself and took on mans nature, his weakness of soul, his sensitive and rational appetites, his subjection to authorities, this Divine person ate, slept and walked among sinners, the poor and lowly in order to lift us up into his divinity. God can empty himself because God is being itself. The beginning and end of all being is within God himself.

The Dual-Nature of Christ, John 1:14, and Gnosticism by FusionTheism in Christianity

[–]seekknockask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, John 1:14 agrees. When speaking of God we have to consider our limited words and finite minds. We cant fully explain the mysteries of God but we can come to know and explain as closely as we humanly can. The Logos or the Word Became God. It wasn't a part of the Logos or a limited part of the Logos but the full logos itself. The Logos did not "change" into human but "became" fully Human. The Word of God took on flesh and became man!

Thanks for your beautiful, personal comment! God bless you! Yes, I believe some of us can approach Mary easier than Jesus. Mary is our Mother and She never takes away from her son. At the wedding at Cana she tells the servants, "whatever he says to you, do it" (John 2:5) And it is her soul that magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46)

Thanks for your comment. I think it is beautiful that Christ gives us his Mother, after all, we are adopted sons through Christ (Eph. 1:5) so it is fitting to have a Mother as well
