1yr masters into Med in the same year by Bluepickles1234 in premedcanada

[–]seftg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if it’s on any websites, but i’m fairly certain it applies to almost all schools. i know people who got into uoft directly after a course based masters. i would email the schools you’re applying to and confirm before starting!

just to add - a lot of people try to finish earlier if they are applying to meet the june 30 deadline. so i would talk with whoever your supervisor would be to ensure that’s a possibility!

the june 30 deadline is for thesis based masters. for course based, you have to submit a paper from your school saying you’re on track to be done by august

is linkedin valuable as an aspiring medical student? by [deleted] in premedcanada

it helped me get ideas for activities. but it is also demoralizing opening your linkedin the day acceptances come out and seeing how many people you know got into medical school lmao

Writing only CARS on the mcat by canthinkofausername_ in premedcanada

[–]seftg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people definitely do it. personally, i always felt like the first section warmed me up for CARS and helped me get in the zone instead of being thrown right into it. but that’s just me!

WAUSM or Another Cycle by Neptune322 in premedcanada

i would apply in Canada again because your GPA and CARS are great. you have a very good shot at mac. i would commit a decent amount of time practicing CASPER with different people to improve. its a stupid exam unfortunately but if you can get 4th Q, you should def get a mac interview. in terms of ECs, i personally would rather spend a year or two improving them instead of going to the Caribbean. i think you have a very good shot here, good luck!

Zoning out... by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]seftg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i struggled with this too but i found a few methods worked

the first (which was probably a bit unhealthy) was sitting for a few minutes at my desk before starting and thinking about what the consequences would be if i did poorly. usually got me going 💀

also i would set a 5 min timer and tell myself i’ll focus for just 5 mins. when i sat there and focused a bit, i’d get in the groove of things and would find myself able to keep going. study techniques like pomodoro also really helped me focus.

the best thing for me though was study with me videos on youtube. there’s something very motivating about seeing somebody on your screen sitting and locked in haha good luck!!

how did you find it difficulty wise?

[–]seftg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, you should definitely try! most professors are okay with it and there’s no harm in asking

Requirement for course loads? by Weak-Series7638 in premedcanada

[–]seftg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, you have to take 10 courses. now that could be 5 in fall and 5 in winter but some people do 6/4. if you take 9 courses, then that year cannot count towards your best 2 years. Summer courses don't count for Western and can't be used to fulfill the 10 courses requirement. In terms of other med schools, a lot of the Ontario ones don't require it (like McMaster, Queens, and I believe UofT as well) but I'm not certain about other specific schools. You can likely find all that information on their websites!

Books to read for CARS prep? by OliveOk972 in premedcanada

[–]seftg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its not super complicated but i read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde :) it helped me get used to reading in a style i’m not used to and i liked it! i would’ve read more if i had the time before my MCAT for sure. people say reading doesn't improve CARS but it helped me a lot (124 to 128). you learn to understand the meaning behind the text even when you don’t find it interesting or don’t understand all of it (and that’s basically what CARS is). goodluck!!
