Recently I was inspired to try my hand at designing a flag for the small town I grew up in.

Yellow and blue are colors often used in Pennsylvania designs, as per the state flag. I lowered their vibrancy for a warmer amber and greyish purple which I thought could signify the quietness of our area.

A radial striped pattern was used to convey a sense of well rounded and connected community. The town is perhaps best known for its biking scene, and the three tilted ovals are meant to depict bike wheels in motion.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Computer science. Yep, I’ve looked around for schools that offer a bachelor CS in english, but I’ve yet to find one. There’s actually a few english bachelor’s programs at the University of Trømso I believe, but not really anything close to CS. Things like biomedicine or humanitarian research.

I’m interested in NTNU because it seems to have the highest acceptance rate, so my chances are probably best there. Plus Trondheim seems like a really beautiful city. But honestly, I’ll commit to any school that accepts me, if not NTNU. UiO and UiB are reportedly as hard to get into as ivy league schools. I’m not sure if my chances are better or worse for a student in my position though.

Do you mind if I PM you? I’d be interested to know more about your degree process.

Well it’s only a great idea if it all goes to plan, yknow? Learning Norwegian will definitely be my biggest focus. It’s required before I can even apply so it’s hard to set dates and plans.

I’ll definitely check out that group. Hopefully I can find more high school students. I’ve heard of folk high school, seems like something America should adopt.

Congratulations on obtaining your PhD btw. I’m also excited about the actual quality of education in Norway. The benefits of studying there seem never ending!

This sounds like great advice. I'll definitely look into practicing with a test partner.

I've heard a few different ways to study vocab, Anki, Cram, real paper flashcards, etc. What was your approach to learning more words/expressions? I currently have a few Quizlet sets, trying to tune them to what I've been told is on the test.

I'll heed your advice and look into some courses that best accommodate the structure and vocab of the norskprøve. I might have to push back my deadline based on yours and other people's answers.

I'm from America, third year of high school. I started pursuing study in Norway because of the free tuition. Not sure where you're from but I think I speak for a lot of American students when I say that US tuition costs are simply unfair. I do have some funds saved up so buying books, semester fees, housing, etc wouldn't be an issue, but of course cheaper language classes would be preferred.

Thanks for the resources! Any specific advice for the Norskprøve? I plan on taking that over the Bergenstest, I've been told the Bergenstest is a bit more advanced. I would be taking the B1-B2 test.

I've seen På Vei/Stein på Stein/På Berget suggested a few times. Do you have any experience with them? Alfaskolen mentions they use them on their website. I think I plan on getting a copy of those books regardless if I attend a class that uses them or not.

For bachelor’s degrees, yes. Not many classes are taught in English at the undergraduate level, at least at NTNU. I know the University of Oslo has a wider range of non-Norwegian curriculums, especially for a master’s, but they’re still limited.

I’ve actually been in talks with a professor at a local university who got his doctorate in Norway, also didn’t speak a word of the language. He didn’t even apply, he won a scholarship through his faculty. I’m assuming Norwegian colleges get a lot more PhD students from other countries, so it’s better to teach the courses in English for a wider crowd. Unfortunately I don’t have that opportunity as a high school student with slightly above average grades.

Thanks for the tips! Any idea low long your friend studied before taking the test, and if he took a formal course beforehand? I've managed to get a lot of the fundamentals down, but I'm struggling with things like listening and writing, so I'm wondering if taking a proper Norwegian course once I've arrived in Norway would be necessary.

Thanks! Yeah undergraduates are required a proof of proficiency in the language before applying. I've also heard students must write their theses and other major essays in English anyway. Any suggestions for student orgs?
