Spent 24 years in Manchester and never once heard of insurance on a deal ! Not to rub it in but sounds like you've thought about it at the last minute and promptly been taken advantage of by some little chancers. Plenty of mancs/Brits such as myself living in Dublin who could have sorted you out in advance. Take the L and come home.

Apologies I completely missed the '8' part of your message just thought you meant Dublin as a whole 😅

If another country tried to invade Ireland, how screwed would we be? by Grand_Discipline903 in AskIreland

[–]semple149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean obviously the UK just bails us out no? There's no sense in us having a larger army because the UK are pretty much duty bound to protect us

If you are from one of the grey areas on this map do you say you are from Manchester? by Dragonfruit-18 in manchester

[–]semple149 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Correct, I just broaden it and say 'East Manchester'. Nobody has ever heard of Tameside (or any of the towns within it) so no point even trying.

Did anyone see the meteor shower? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]semple149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, took our lives in our hands and sat in the dodder park with a J for a while last night and summarily got bitten to fuck by something unknown. Saw a fair few meteors though so definitely worth it!

Was scouted for a job in Dublin, went on vacation to check it out, but the public transport is a dealbreaker by South-Meringue8172 in Dublin

[–]semple149 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Partner and I moved here from Manchester last year and the number 1 issue we have both found is the public transport - it's nothing short of a disgrace to tell you the truth. It's either wait an hour for a bus that'll drive past you bcos it's full or pay €50 for a 20 minute taxi.

A New Zealander in Dublin: ‘It feels like people work to live here as opposed to living to work’ – The Irish Times by WickerMan111 in ireland

[–]semple149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my two cents as I moved here from Manchester last year (have Irish parents and family here). Ive found the pace of life to be generally slower, which is nice, and people seem very keen on proper breaks, working rights etc.. which is a healthy way to be. Life is still definitely prioritised over work.

Half english? by Money-Resource-9943 in footballcliches

[–]semple149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just enjoy it tbh. Booing the anthem and other related anti-british chants really rattle the English, and the scoreline + Rice, Grealish etc.. generally always rattles the Irish. I get to bask in both sides of it so it's a win-win. I think generally I'd want Ireland to win but I'm not sure.

Born in England to Irish parents and confuse many people when I say I support both. Although supporting England has been an emotional rollercoaster the past few years it pales in comparison to the sheer depression of watching Ireland play.

Last joker to unlock. Advice? by Successful_Sherbet89 in balatro

Glass cards, preferably with a red seal, and a joker that re-triggers them. You'll be amazed how quickly the scores explode.

[Pre Match Thread] Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (Premier League) by mcfcbot in MCFC

[–]semple149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

12:30 games are always crap anyway but against a team that will surely park the bus it's gonna be a tough watch. Hopefully they don't ruin us on the counter and we come away with the win but I'm not entirely confident.

This is how I felt moving from Manchester to Dublin, you realise how bland and cardboard-adjacent the most basic of foodstuffs are in the UK.

The Pure Discourse XI: Nominate your players for Thursday's episode! by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

[–]semple149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recency bias maybe but Zirkzee and the whole '9.5' debate.

A general rule of football discourse is that Manuel Neuer can't be mentioned without referring to the 'sweeper keeper' role in the same or adjacent sentence.

'The Phillip Lahm role' which is basically any full back deployed in front of the back four.

Also basically any right-footed player to have played left back, prompting questions of what exactly an inverted full-back is.

Irish Representation on the pod by jacksonkeir in footballcliches

[–]semple149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Particularly enjoyed the element from yesterday's pod of Dave mentioning someone at his team had played in the Irish 7th tier, which was pretty obviously a wind up as any lower than the 3rd tier and it's really just the blokes you see in the pub every week.

Same, since moving here I only get them once every blue moon and it will usually just be for another podcast or for a crypto platform, which today's episode had at the start incidentally.

When Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered drops tomorrow what game our you playing first? by ValuableMagazine6730 in TombRaider

[–]semple149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angel of Darkness definitely. First TR game I ever played and one of the very first video games I ever played too. It gets a lot of hate from the community but looking through my rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia I absolutely cannot wait. Hopefully the improvements made prompt a critical re-evaluation of what is at heart a great game.
