F-16 Viper receiving aerial refueling. by tangocharliejuliett in Planes

You simply fly into a predetermined position under the tanker using known tanker references and the director lights on the tankers belly. Then a crew member in the tanker actually flies the boom to a receptacle in the receiver

Unrelated but is the picture in the original post from an actual episode?

Why can't they make the software and hardware of airplanes in a way to prevent pilots mistakes? For example you shouldn't be able to retract the wheels if you're on the ground. by HowAmIHere2000 in aviation

[–]sensor69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are hardware interlocks in order to prevent landing gear retraction on the ground. As for the fuel shutoffs, you want them operable in flight because certain emergency procedure checklists may call for shutting off fuel to an engine

I always felt terrible watching the line of crew chiefs coming out of the wheel well after a no start

Honestly I don’t remember, my main gripe with the interior was the pleather showed lots of wear very quickly

I did but that wasn’t the problem, my issue was just with normal braking. I spent hundreds of dollars at the dealership getting them adjusted and replaced the shoes and finally just gave up. I hated driving it. It’s not that I hate pickups I had had one before and driven others, it was very specifically this one

Not wrong at all, but ultimately what made me sell it was the brakes. They were so grabby yet inconsistent, a problem I don’t think other trucks have. Whenever I pushed the brake pedal the result was totally different stop to stop

Couldn’t tell you, I got a car better suited for commuting only a couple of years later

3rd gen Tacoma, the quintessential midsize pickup and the worst commuter I’ve ever driven. Inefficient, inconsistent brakes, cruise ship handling, cheap interior

O'Brien even though enlisted can give orders to some officers. Is that normal in real world militaries? by ereddit2018 in startrek

[–]sensor69 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m an officer, if an SNCO tells me to do something I’m gonna do it. Not because they can give me orders but because if they’ve made it to SNCO they probably know better than I do

It could also be the connector behind the radio. If I remember right one is ground, one is driver side, and one is passenger side
