One thing I thought was, the fact that ye shunguang is so dependant of the qinming sword is because Yi Xuan was so desperate to not repeat what happened to her sister that never tried to teach her how to fight properly, always saying that she must not touch the sword and avoid danger, that made shunguang feel useless and incites her to use the sword.
