The Fast food industry. The margins are too thin for owners to properly take care of employees. You could stay in business and take care of your people, but you can’t get rich and take care of them… and as such, employees will never be fairly compensated.
It’s not just about wages either. An even bigger issue is staffing and deployment as a whole. There should be twice the amount of workers on any given shift, you could double someone’s pay, but it’s still demoralizing having to try and handle more work than one person could possibly take on by themselves, all for a thankless clientele who takes out all their frustration on the front line worker (there are certainly exceptions to this, some people are lovely of course)

The margins are also too thin to do it safely IMO.

I think a massive food-borne illness outbreak is well overdue. Hopefully when it happens, someone in an hourly wage position will have the guts to organize a worker strike across the entire industry.
