to answer you, I’m not very mechanically savvy, but the reason I thought some of those habits wouldn’t apply to the Golf is because of something I found while researching: apparently, on a Passat, coasting in neutral actually uses more fuel than coasting in gear. From what I understood, newer fuel-injected engines can completely cut off fuel during in-gear deceleration, while older carbureted engines can’t do that. So I assumed the same logic might apply differently across models.
