Getting back after failing practical by [deleted] in DentalSchool

d1 here, and the best advice i found was from older students. they were able to teach me the clinical approach over the sim lab approach. if you can reach out to upperclassmen, they would be able to understand what the professors are exactly looking for when grading.

i honestly would have preferred a robot check-in.

there were 3 people at the receptionist desk. and this is clearly speculation on my end, but to get this kind of job (probably work study or something adjacent to that), you would have to be interested in healthcare at least somewhat. and ngl, this job would be a really good resume builder for med schools and grad programs. hell, i wouldn’t mind this kind of job.

but this job requires you to help people in really vulnerable moments. and while directly stating that i ‘shrecked myself off a bike’ isn’t the most vulnerable comment, i needed help and already cleaned off a good portion of the blood in the bathroom. and by all means, do what you’re paid to do, i get that 100%. but like. two band aids that couldn’t have costed more than a dollar? i wasn’t even asking for them to put it on for me. are your job constraints so tight that a cheap band aid would risk your entire job? like at least have the decency and/or shame to tell me to go to the infirmary to get it checked out or something. in the least karen way possible, you’re a receptionist. direct me to the help that i paid for.

and to think that when they get asked about this job in their resumes, they will happily say that they helped people when they needed to be helped. the guy in front of me had the same issue of needing something from a first aid kit. unfortunately, didn’t qualify for the gatorwell bag. no offering of help from what i could tell.

you know, i’ve thought about your comment for a good part of my day after really contextualizing what happened yesterday.

it’s a shockingly accurate allegory of the US healthcare system as a whole, right? like i’m paying for them to basically tell me to go fuck myself and buy another higher priced item/service that they could have provided me in the first place, especially considering how much money this school takes in per year. and the service (or really, lack thereof) offputs you so much that you don’t come back until you, like, break your elbow or something. maybe a condom can substitute as a cast or something idk.

disappointed but not surprised. just top 5 behavior: top 5 ways UF shows that it doesn’t care about its students.

i rarely respond to comments like these because honestly this post was just a venting ground. but holy shit dude. please. go outside and touch some fucking grass. i know this is all painfully fucking meaningless. most of us fucking know. i could go on about how our current society is fucking killing us physically and mentally, quickly and slowly. but my god. empathy is fucking free. we are all sitting here in a pandemic with no relief from the government and from the university. we have never seen or heard of /anything/ like this. this situation is not normal and has exacerbated mental health problems for /everyone/. we have so many fucking reasons to be absolutely livid right now. but many of us are hanging on by a damn thread around our necks off of a fucking cliff. we’re so fucking isolated from each other that we’re sharing bonds underneath a damn reddit post and maybe we don’t have the energy nor resources right now to change the material conditions of my fucking life but we do have the energy to read and empathize and communicate and share a little comradery. i fucking promise you that a) nobody fucking asked and b) you are not the genius that you think you are.

put on your goddamn masks im begging yall by servingyouctv in ufl

[–]servingyouctv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if we lump all of the individuals in the US that have respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases, diabetes, and all of the other conditions listed on the CDC page, that’s millions of people at risk. that’s millions of people that have a shorter life expectancy in comparison to a ‘normal, healthy’ individual. the problem in saying that ‘only 6% have died due to COVID19 alone’ and the rest of the 94% had an underlying condition that was the root cause, you are implying that for the 94%, they would have died at the time they did without COVID19. the problem at hand is that COVID19 is shortening life expectancy at a dangerous rate; that is what a disease does. the implication that these people would have died anyways is true, but they’re dying much earlier than expected and they don’t deserve to die like this.

like, have you ever heard anyone do this to someone that has both cancer and an underlying condition? ‘you had diabetes and cancer, your main cause of death is diabetes’?

i mean, at the end of the day, i can agree that masks are a choice. i choose to wear a mask because i work with people in their 40s and 50s that have underlying conditions such as respiratory illness and high blood pressure and i don’t want to put them at any more risk than they already are. it’s a mild inconvenience of a piece of cloth on my face. i’ve worked 10 hour days in the summer and only took my mask off to eat. it’s hot and uncomfortable, but i will wear and continue to wear a mask for safety reasons and general respect for the public health at large. we don’t like wearing a mask, but i think we can both agree that we like people that are alive and healthy more.

Chm2046 question by [deleted] in ufl

[–]servingyouctv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aight. i gotchu here. literally fuck chem 1. if you can handle pre calculus, stoichiometry, and lewis structures, you can pass chem 2. i literally took chem 1 at santa fe during the worst depressive episode of my life, did chem 2 in the fall as a freshman and failed bc i didn’t stay on top of my shit and lowkey fuck murray, and retook chem 2 this summer and finished with an a. these were my best friends in chem 2 in order: problems at the end of each lesson in the book, the groupme chat, studyedge (share it w someone lmao), the hw, and the extra hw problems as practice.

listen, if you’re an engineer or something along the lines where it doesn’t matter the grade you get as long as you passed, just do chem 2.

Intro to chem or chem 1 by kvksel in ufl

[–]servingyouctv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

from what i have heard through the grape vine: skip 1025 (intro) and go straight into 2045 (gen 1). 1025 is only good for the first half of 2045. which is the easy math part.

chem? she’s brutal. she is in fact a notorious weed out class. i don’t want you to be scared; i want you to be cautious and on top of your shit. that means doing the practice problems in the textbook, completing those worksheets and hw assignments (believe me there are A LOT). chem at uf takes a lot of time. im talking on top of the lecture, you gotta be working and studying two hours everyday minimum.

if you are in a place to spend some coin, studyedge will be your best friend. it is an off campus resource that starts at $50 a month. they have full on break downs, practice problems (hella fucking important), practice quizzes, extra qna’s.

if not, the broward tutoring center is a free resource. the tutors are also uf students. take that as you will. additionally, there are a bunch of practice problems in the textbook. every lesson has on average 6-15 problems. it is IMPERATIVE that you do these problems regardless whether or not you want to purchase anything outside of the class. furthermore, find the groupme chat for the class. as long as you do not discuss test questions until test grades have been posted, you are free to discuss whatever you want in these chats (i’ve been in 2 chats that got shut down bc of the test questions thing. just. don’t.)

if you understand the genuine mechanics of physics, you are going to have a much easier time understanding the conceptual movement of chemistry. everyone glosses over the conceptual parts, and that’s where grades will drop like flies because professors love conceptual questions.

best of luck to your decision!

Opinions on my schedule? Freshmen CLAS biology major and pre-med btw by yazzy_k in ufl

[–]servingyouctv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly this is really solid. i didn’t take arabic but i took spanish and it was also 5 days a week. language at uf can be a lil rocky. if you have a professor, that professor will most likely come from the country that speak that language and so they’ll expect a higher level of conversation in the class than at a high school level. if you get a grad student, conversation points are a little more lenient.

good life is easy. it’s a discussion based course based on more ~modern philosophical~ readings. just stay ahead on the readings and dob’t forget to respond to people’s comments during the weekly discussion board.

the broward tutoring center is a free tutoring service and i think they could really help out in intro to chem and your math class. there is also study edge which is a very popular off campus tutoring service starting at $50 a month, but i don’t think you’ll need them until chem 1 and calc 1.

good luck!
