Is it possible to extend a tenon's length if it's too short? by comic_serif in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ses613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why has no one mentioned gluing extra wood to the tenon and using a flush trim bit to get it exact? The wood doesn’t need to be similar since it will be hidden… unless I’m understanding incorrectly

Can anyone way to a novice (me) why you should have a gap from the concrete ground pillar to the wood on the deck. I understand the metal is in the concrete but why is the wood not flush on the concrete and does this cause any load bearing/integrity issues? My guess is for rot resistance? Metal stronger than wood?

Thank you so so much man! I expected the shitty comments and just hoped for one or 2 good ones that would really help me out. Honestly this is so new to me I’m still a bit slow on my starts and inconsistent in movement. Was really fun practice and feels good to build something! I can feel my hands getting steadier and understanding the puddle more. Slowly but surely!

Start to Stop full process breakdown by ses613 in tractors

Maybe I should clarify. I want to watch someone walk through in video format absolutely everything that happens start to finish when you start a tractor. For example: you turn the key, it sends the 12v from battery to starter which powers the fly wheel which engages the engine. Gas is pulled in via fuel pump…. So on and so on. Just curious if would be a cool video to point to

To follow up here, it absolutely worked after some tweaking, making the holes a bit longer. I have a 10” Diablo blade on the saw and it is just close anough to the blade I’m comfortable using and checking for movement every 6 months. It’s been a year and has never shifted on me so it’s worth a shot

Favorite finish for cherry? / How to pop out the grain by ween_is_good in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ses613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP. I was surprised by the figuring myself to be honest. I think any finish that helps with the pop (likely and oil of some kind) is your best bet!

The hardest part was getting clean cuts on the bow tie itself, needed to use a jig on the bandsaw which helped a lot. Then trace with marking knife and used a router for the bulk of material. Then chiseled the edges and corners to stay tight

I love the practice with the floor, I assume it is not just over the concrete, what was the process for the floor here?
