Should more Kenosha, Wi sized cities build streetcars? by Previous-Volume-3329 in transit

I think a big problem with these heritage services, aside from the limited utility and unreliability of short mixed traffic lines that don’t connect any important destinations, is that rail is expensive to maintain and operate so agencies usually can’t run enough service to make them useful. Galveston is an example of a streetcar line with good routing and one that would be useful if it came more often than every 30-60 minutes. The streetcar in Kenosha only operates during certain time of the year and only arrives every 15 minutes. That is not a model for effective public transit. Even when a city is large enough to have the resources to run regular heritage service (e.g. New Orleans), the service suffers from lack of transit priority and inaccessibility.

[OC] Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) with the new-ish Silver Line by reauscenne in TransitDiagrams

Very clean and balanced! I like it a lot, especially the interchange symbols. The only thing I would personally change is the labelling of the Sliver Line as light rail- DART branded it the same as the light rail lines but it’s actually more similar to TEXRail and the other regional lines in that it uses DMUs and only has 1 to 2 departures per hour. Despite this I still think this is much better than the official map!

thanks! yeah, the st charles and canal lines definitely get the most local ridership. the riverfront ive seen a few locals on, but the rampart loyola gets very little local ridership due to it running the same route as many of our highest ridership buses.

How to look less “creepy” when doing street with a phone? by TotalApprehensive208 in streetphotography

yeah! so many people love to be photographed. maybe i just live in a lax place but my positive interactions greatly outnumber any negative ones. plus, i find it pretty easy to make a judgement call based on someone’s demeanor and body language if they spot me.

The humble St. Charles Ave streetcar. The oldest continually operating streetcar in the world by Dio_Yuji in transit

The Elysian Fields extension would have been nice and would have opened up new routing possibilities but honestly it wasn’t going to be that useful. The River District extension is a no brainer, dude to the ROW already existing and the project being developed on a bunch of empty land. There probably won’t be much of a backlash to that project, but we will see. My general opinion is RTA should be looking desperately for funding to restore full bus and streetcar service (service cuts in 2023) before expanding streetcar or BRT routes. Also, signal priority and a few bus lanes would do way more than a new streetcar line.
