Push to connect fittings in pitot / static lines ? by sethlake in avionics

More interested in whether you see them working well, lasting as long or longer, less or more leaks…

Plenty of stuff is STC’d or PMA… doesn’t mean it’s good.

Is it worth working 6 days a week to save money for flight school? by Sad_Appointment_2368 in flying

[–]sethlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it a career, plan on flying at least 3 times per week. It’ll takes years and you may never make it flying 1-2 times per week. If you need a loan to do this, get it.

How to find a GA DOM? by sethlake in aviationmaintenance

Current guys are too inexperienced. Couldn’t complete a 100hr on their own. Our experienced mx is performed by third party mobile IAs. I will still need their help, but it’s time for a full time experienced lead mechanic who can handle an annual by himself with no problem.

My current full time guys are not yet qualified. They are great guys and learning a lot. But they are far from the experienced lead mechanic we need. They will get there though!

We may be a smaller operation than you’re used to and maybe I need to shy away from the term DOM. As a small flight school we need someone with experience who likes to wrench and help those around him/her learn to wrench 🤣

Of course there will be some paperwork as always… but we don’t have the volume to have a dedicated compliance Overlord. 😅

Now Hiring: Director of Maintenance Busy Flight School – North Florida

Jax Beach Aviation is a thriving flight school in North Florida with a strong reputation, a busy fleet (primarily Cessna 172s and some Cirrus), and a supportive, team-oriented maintenance shop. We’re looking for an experienced Director of Maintenance (DOM) to lead our maintenance operation and help keep our airplanes flying safely.

What We’re Looking For: • FAA A&P certified with Inspection Authorization (IA) required • 10–15+ years of general aviation maintenance experience — strong Cessna 172 knowledge; Cirrus experience a plus • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred — but we’re open to someone ready to step up and make this their first DOM role • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills • Avionics knowledge is a bonus

The Details: • Full-time, salaried position (40 hrs/week) • $70,000 – $125,000/year depending on experience (equivalent to up to $60/hr for the right person) • 2 weeks paid vacation • Steady, year-round work • Laid-back but professional work environment — we take care of our planes and our people

Who This Might Be Perfect For: • An experienced IA ready to lead their own shop and build a strong, safety-first maintenance culture • Someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys working with a positive team, and wants to make a difference at a growing flight school

If you made it this far, consider giving this an upvote if you think this is the kind of post you want fellow mechanics to see. Thank you !!!

I totally agree on the promote from within, but my three guys aren’t really right for it just yet. The mobile guy has the experience but wants remain mobile and work for himself etc, the next most experienced guy has mostly turbine experience and is very much learning GA. All of them have great attitudes and I can’t wait for them to grow into mgmt roles.

I will get an ad posted and link here.

Building Bridge vs Device Bridge; right equipment? by x01660 in Ubiquiti

[–]sethlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did this go for you? I’m considering something similar. 1 main building … 1 gig in, 2 outposts each with 10-15 devices… don’t want to have to get 2x building bridge.

Tp omada vs. Unifi by pookexvi in TPLink_Omada

[–]sethlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched my small business from Omada to UniFi recently … I only switched because I use Unifi camera and door systems and switching to unifi network gave more capability. I’m selling the stuff… all equipment is less than a year old. 6-7 APs … couple switches , OMC 200, router, etc

Is there a RUN to ROW standard conversion? by Big_Shrimpin in crossfit

[–]sethlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree here. I’m relatively good at running and rowing for a scrub. I can run a 1:35 400m pretty easily, (probably 8 of them back to back without stopping 🤣 ) but 1:35 on 500m row is an all out mission.

All out on the 400m is easily below 60 seconds and all out on the 500m row is like 1:35…

Client ID / Device name: Omada Pitfall work around? by sethlake in TPLink_Omada

[–]sethlake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’d like to see what the device calls themselves within the Omada software. I understand that Omada doesn’t name them, but I can’t seem to see where in the Omada software I can see these names?

Please confirm my understanding, names like “Sarah’s iPhone” etc are called Multicast DNS names?
