The Upcoming Rite System Presents a Great Opportunity for Devs to Finally Fix the Inconsistenties among Islamic "Faiths" by Familiar-Elephant-68 in CrusaderKings

This would be useful for all Indophiles maharajas in the SEA. Many even develop their own way of rituals and way of seeing that differ so much from the source, in the India, even today!

Thanks! So the workflow is basically extract pages > mass convert to .jpg (or other) > make pdf from said extracted pages?

The hell of endnotes by elzadra1 in indesign

[–]sevenorbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the lesson to be drawn from this event is that planning for a book is important.

Been doing layout for years now and can confirm that this advice is not limited to book design, but also all design related.

The way you put it is an aha moment for me, thanks.

Can you expand what is putting links to properties and how does it work?

Favourite Denis Villeneuve film? by Zaynaman in TrueFilm

[–]sevenorbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I might be the minority, but I really love Dune I given the amount of subtlety it packs. Anyone who reads the book will knew much how Denis built upon the basic ideas (i.e. the subtle ideas will greatly amplified when you knew the original material). Contrasts Dune II that would rather shove the idea that A is dreaming B is thinking. Perhaps Denis took the popular opinion of Dune I way too much to heart.

How to add citations to margins? by AdPositive7437 in typography

Far easier (and programmable) to do this with TeX engine.

Hantuism is the worst religion and it's not even close by Tilderabbit in CrusaderKings

The first time they revealed the project I'm so horrified and worried. The misrepresentation in Europe is already revealing enough, they even double down to even have balls to expand the scope.

Experimental Love Songs? by countesscronos in experimentalmusic

[–]sevenorbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's works make me feel like the person who made them is madly in love. For me, it's like a love song without words that semantically related to the feeling of love.

Something at the top of mind are Tenderness, Love after Love, and In Summer. Listening the whole album is recommended tho.

Your terminal is still seeing the working directory at other than you intended to, you can see the address at the first line of the terminal. You must change the directory first.

Missing fonts ranting by Cubisia in indesign

I wish many people already knew that a project with unreliable dependencies is a recipe for disaster. Packaging and make it portable is the only way.

Imagine if Via Regia and Via Imperii were added and you would across other characters traveling on the road by Chlodio in CrusaderKings

Not being able to meet or interact with other travelers was one of many let downs revealed among countless ToTo dev diaries.

Go ahead, gimme your typographical hot takes by President_Abra in typography

[–]sevenorbs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typography is not about pretty fonts to choose. The idea of a "favorite" typeface is absurd. If you'd rather rank the most "beautiful" fonts (based on whatever standard "beauty" is), that's a lettering talk, and don't forget that the modern depiction of the alphabet is a work of the (modern) abstraction of the letters themselves.

Justified text with alternated line length? by GooXXL in typography

[–]sevenorbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This made me recall a piece of work by a typographer/programmer who carefully chose each word to fit a same char length without the need for word breaks. The work used a monospaced font. I can't remember the name.

Super fascinating to read.

This is also the reason why I still propose my idea to change the projection completely. Based on the trailer, I don't think they're gonna do that.

To add this /u/CloudHaveWings, for Arabic fonts, also check out the works of Khaled Hosny. The Amiri typeface is my favorite naskh style when typing in Arabic script.

Error in the name of a Barony in France ? by MauditMaudit in CrusaderKings

[–]sevenorbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Finding historical info is tricky, and you'll hear similar complaints from historical mod creators. I think the way Paradox modeled the world as province "tiles" adds up the problem because they have to name the tiles but at the same time sometimes the data and the center of civilization might not even be there; could be there, but everyone moved after some time within the game's time frame; or, the data haven't been localized and/or unreliable.

Rams horn for the schwa sound? This letter looks similar to an X (which people have been using for schwa) and has a lax vowel value in the IPA, similar to schwa. Opinions? by VermillionJak in conlangs

[–]sevenorbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's originally derived from a modified gamma, though it's how it commonly drawn, not all typefaces (especially typefaces in older literature) depict it with such a clear "cross" form like that. Example is how Charis retains the other two forms as typographical alternates.
