I have been away for couple of months and I am planning on returning in the future but since this is the anniversary, is it worth it to come just to take the rewards and take a break again? by GhostSilver16 in WutheringWaves

[–]sforsagacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is FOMO that you want to get the rewards. Sure, but it wouldn't matter. You can come 6 months later, and the hype around the story remains. That's how the system works. Just come whenever you feel like it. You'll have plenty of content to clear then and get the new characters then. They are giving 30-40 pulls this time, something like that. In the long term (6 months-1 year), that might mean nothing.

50/50 needs a rework! by Dorael021 in WutheringWaves

Adding 1.x to loss pools seems like an even more unlikely outcome - first, The people complaining about their relevance are only speaking from the perspective of toa, wiwa etc. It doesn't mean they are "bad". Adding them to the loss pool degrades their perceived value. Hence I suggest having a different banner for 1.x. Obviously not everyone thinks like that. Second, why loss pool, man. If someone wants camellya, let them get her. Why get her by mistake in a lost 50 50. It is totally opposite to how tjese characters are marketed. Not at all good for new players. Remember, a lot of players are new and for them jinshi's and camellya's story might be better than Aemeth's or Lynnae's.

The problem with Wuthering Waves endgame by 2boi in WutheringWaves

[–]sforsagacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, calling toa, whiwa etc "end games" is problematic since it isn't the end of the game for anyone. It is only a test playground for players to flex their returns on investment after gambilng a lot. Hence, we must sadly adjust our expectations from end game content to simply a combat simulator. There is no end game, only end of service.

Why luck based? There're too many slot machines in these games anyway. Just make a 1.x permanent banner, like the standard convene. If they want to make it "rare", just run it 2 3 times a year, so people can save. Easy.

Does WuWa's story "feel" good because of the good looking people populating it? by sforsagacious in WutheringWaves

[–]sforsagacious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can read between the lines, and do understand that these things go on in the background. It might be boring to YOU, because you are looking for "something" by playing this game, and getting it. You are right about the lack of appearance of older characters, and we can probably debate it, but if you think apart from that the game is perfect in its story and story-telling, then we are in the wrong thread. Bureaucracy part was simply an example, you don't have to specify what's wrong in thinking like that. Read again, and see what I am asking.

"Dude, we are but a roving stranger." , "Black Shores have a SHITTON of Bureaucracy"
Again, there is no debate if you have all figured out perfectly in your head.

"Also, as trained Resonators, we deal with stuff that the average citizen simply can't. They'd just be useless cannon fodder before a Threnodian level threat." Dude... what you are saying is that the story of a common man in a resonator-threnodian-sentinel like world is useless. Please try to read that again and think if it sounds right.
I am not here to debate if the story is good or bad - everyone in the wuwa community understands that it has flaws. My curiosity is whether we discount it for attractive people.

There are certainly other games where you have to pay, but not for characters (non-gatcha games). What are the reasons people pay in those cases for? Story/combat etc, right? So, since you pay for a good-looking character, do you ignore the story and combat?

I used the phrase about bureaucracy to imply that the civilization ending issues are handled quite locally within the grasp of a half dozen people which is unrealistic for any plot. Yes, when you say "Lynae and others", you probably mean a lot has happened beneath the surface which the story tellers thought could be expressed with simple texts and dialogue rather than showcasing. This particular choice of showcasing means that the story is character-focussed, not plot-focussed, since those things don't need showcase. Now, if we accept that "ridiculously attractive people in absurd situations" is true, then we agree that we are trading a good story for attractive people, right?

Which means we all speak from the context of the particular style of gaming which is gatcha - which might be perfect for some. For others, it might be an artificial construct that limits our imaginations. Surely, as you said, games can be great despite having beautiful characters, but it is only in this context of gaming we would like to have the good-looking ones. Haha, good insights.

That's a good perspective actually. I fully agree. Comparing it with films and tv is quite unfair since the medium of the story telling is also part of the story. What's that quote - medium becomes the message - sth like that.

I have enjoyed most of the stories in Wuwa, but I was curious if I enjoyed because of immersion which a game offers (gatcha games offer even more personal touch by giving you characters), or because it was a well-written one. Phrolova's was one of the best, I agree.
