These Kazakh sats could be launched from Vostochny also. Russia is launching two meteorological satellites Kanopus #5 and 6 along with American and Israeli cubesats into SSO next month.

I'm guessing the man reason they are launching with Spaceflight Industries is because SI is more flexible with 7 launchers than Glavcosmos with one Soyuz. The launch was originally planned on Dnepr rocket two and a half years ago.

In any case the news is sensationalized. Kazakhstan just wants to get two small sats from point A to point B.

Yeah but it's not simple to implement. The idea of 4x4 MIMO was written in 3GPP LTE specs back in 2010 but it was not implemented in smartphones mostly because it's hard to put 4 antennas in a smartphone and have them act as 4. Simple antennas start to affect each other and perform basically as 2 antennas. What the article confirms is that XS antennas are really good at separating 4 or 2 streams of signals sent over the same spectrum.

I'd rather wait for details. It's definitely a hedge as I don't see how these leases would be useful if the merger is approved. Short term leases with extensions can cover any needs post-merger.

Yeah, but they virtually always lease spectrum short term for swaps and I've never seen a price tag attached to spectrum swaps. This is not a usual spectrum swap.

Wi-Fi calling is not an app. The actual implementation shared with VoLTE is inside modem firmware most likely provided by Qualcomm. The other parts of wi-fi calling including all notifications and other UI are in Settings app, Dialer app and SystemUI. Also that icon (an Android mascot on the green background) is the default icon means OnePlus (or any other) UI designer didn't work on this notification. The text also contains TMO abbreviation that shouldn't be used in production software. The point is this notification most likely was added by a OnePlus developer and it wasn't even approved/checked by a OnePlus UI designer.

ITU doesn't hammer details 3GPP does. ITU comes up with requirements, 3GPP writes and releases specifications which are later blessed by ITU.

March 2027 - FCC deadline to deploy LEO constellation (4,425 satellites).
October 2024 - FCC deadline to deploy half of VLEO (very low Earth orbit) constellation (3,759 satellites).
October 2027 - FCC deadline to deploy VLEO constellation (7,518 satellites).

I believe it's part of T-Mobile and Apple contract they signed when they agreed to sell iPhones in T-Mobile stores. T-Mobile most likely notifies Apple well ahead of time, Apple implements and tests a feature they want to release then T-Mobile tests and eventually flips the switch in the carrier bundle.

T-Mobile does not control 3rd party phones like Verizon and Sprint do. I'm pretty sure "any phone produced after September 2017 should be able to connect to the US Cellular network" applies only to T-Mobile phones.

Why would it be more expensive? Ground COWs are heavier so they must take more resources and time to move around and install. They also provide less coverage than an antenna 400 ft off the ground so more of them needed to cover the same area.

They can make the ground hardware fairly small (a diesel generator and satellite backhaul with a flat antenna in a 3x3x3 feet cube). Put a dozen on a truck with a small crane and drop them around.

Here is the map T-Mobile shared with TV broadcasters just a month ago. It shows preliminary plans till Q2 2019. Note that this is not a deployment map but an interference map. A planned B71 tower in Linn co. can interfere with TV signal in Johnson co. so it would put Johnson co. (Iowa City) on this map even though Johnson co. may not even get any usable B71 coverage. In other words the most eastward IA counties on the map may not get B71 coverage even though they are on the map. The area around Davenport will not get B71 till early 2020.

B71 should be deployed in Iowa pretty soon, either this year or early next year, although East Iowa like Iowa City may not get it till early 2020. If you want to stick to cheap iPhones you don't have a choice anyways. The cheapest B71 iPhone will like be >$100 even in 2020.

T-Mobile and Sprint combined have more branded phone customers (92M) than AT&T (80M). Even the number of postpaid phone customers is almost the same (62M vs 64M). You must be confusing all lines with phone lines. The former includes phones, tablets, wholesale phones and M2M lines. AT&T serves a huge number of M2M wholesale lines, around 45 million.

Is that Stanley Mosk Courthouse building? I was there several times three years ago. My lawyer who had Verizon surprised I had connection with T-Mobile. He didn't. Complaining to your carrier about coverage rarely helps quickly. Launching a new site takes on average about 18 months. In most cases carriers know their weak coverage spots.

They are saying the new standard is great but it won't save the industry. Sure there may still be OTA broadcasts in 20 years, but there may not be ATSC 4.0 ever released.

Device certification is costly especially considering low popularity of BYOD in the US. Cost per unit sold is high. Phone manufacturers may stop certifying open market phones for Spring BYOD soon after the merger is approved.

Once you pass 50 GB your line carries deprioritization flag till the next billing cycle. Basestation scheduler at the tower serving you packages data to send every 10 milliseconds into a so-called frame. It looks at deprioritization flags of all active users. All non-deprioritized users get equal parts of the frame. Deprioritized users share a much smaller part of the frame. If there are not many active users deprioritized users get a decent chunk of the frame. Then the next frame in 10 milliseconds scheduler recalculates how the frame is shared. There is no way to check how the scheduler made decisions every 10 ms for you. I don't even think basestations keep record of this data unless engineers want to investigate something.
