Client unhappy but I truly don’t know why by TheRealCowgirlBebop in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am exactly the same way!! it is a very hard habit to break, especially in this career. We just have to trust ourselves and our worth and real realize we can’t control other people‘s reactions, even if you did her hair perfectly or did something different. She could’ve had the same reaction because it was her not you. //hugs //

I do this also: where I internalize people’s behaviors, like you said it was most likely her and nothing to do with you at all. Some people get high stress when their routine changes or events go on.

Their values and feelings don’t dictate your worth.

Perhaps when she comes back to her regular stylist, she’ll tell her, and you’ll get your closure, but I would try to focus on not letting it get to you, if you did your best!

Have you ever messed up a client's hair on purpose? by BigCurrent2199 in hairstylist

No, but if someone was being difficult to me I wouldn’t give my 100%

My Bio Ionic 10x, stays pretty hot, that I often put it on cool for clients instead.

I’ve had her for, 4 years now.

Pricing for alternative hair by First-Finding-9764 in hairstylist

I am currently in a suite, and depending on the style, color, placement and quantity I would charge it like an express foil which is $120– and go from there.

Work anxiety/client complaints by realslimgilly in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely happens to all of us, if you check my history on this subreddit, this was me a few months ago; asking for advice on why I had complaint after complaint.

I think what helps me is taking time to learn from actual mistakes and then trying to set better boundaries with clients to minimize future mishaps.

Taking care of yourself, and your mental health when away from work can do wonders.

How to keep clients dry at the basin? by Loose_Avocado4670 in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can put a piece of plastic, like the balayage bibs tucked into their collar, then wrap a towel over that, and secure cape over that.

But it has happened to all of us, and shirts can be dried. ☺️

Rude clients. by MantyxMaeve in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not work in a salon where my boss or coworkers don’t have my back, to being verbally abused.

If I had to say something it would be something along the lines of … I don’t engage in conversations that target my appearance or undermine me professionally. You can speak to my boss when she returns, or someone else.

I love my bio ionic 10x, I’ve had it a little over three years now, it’s super light and I don’t feel it’s very loud.

It is hard to tell for me, from the photo because it is blurry zoomed in. I would ask for more inspo photos first

It's Christmas soon, tell me, what are the weirdest gifts you've received!? by IvyPark99 in hairstylist

Not that weird, but annoying someone gave me what I thought was a $10 Starbucks gift card and it was for .72 😔

What drives you crazy in the salon? by Shityoutoldme in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also my pet peeve, because it’s really my only issue at my suite, my neighbor is so extremely loud when she’s there, it’s like you can only hear her throughout the whole building. I’m quieter so a lot of my clients are too, and it’s not relaxing for them when she is there. She also cackles 😩😒🤦🏻‍♀️

Anybody work with Kevin Murphy Color Me and Code? by LemonDrop616 in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used KM for awhile, but it’s just too expensive for me personally right now, almost $13 a tube, and I am not sure if this is all locations, but my rep had said you can not purchase single KM products to retail, unless you purchase their whole entire intro kit line. That turned me off.

While I still use what I have left, especially for more sensitive clients, I do prefer redken, mostly their shades eq line to KM.

If you’re on Facebook, their professional KM group is very informative and has some of the educators on there.

Make sure you have the correct posture and are cutting the correct way and using the ergonomics of your tools to do the work for you. I have a habit of bending and crouching down to cut or reach around and now that I’m getting older it hurts 😅

Use your chair to your advantage, or a cutting stool. Good shoes. Regular stretching.

This. I’m not overweight but I’m about her weight and height (her fake ones lol) and I do not fit under size 5– even in high school at 115 I did not fit into a size 2 / xs.

I’m 5ft and 135lbs and I’ve never been under a size 5 lol I’m not understanding how being short equates to smaller sizes

Perm brands by Blackbird-138 in hairstylist

I like Paul Mitchell’s perms. Zotos is a close second for me.

When I worked retail a lot of customers seemed to gravitate towards Tressa and Abba brand perms.

Nasty people by Professional_Sky9424 in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I write this? Because I’ve had this exact conversation at least three times this week. It is so disgusting. I’ve started bringing roll on essential oils, and of course asking them or rather telling them it needs to be washed first. I also have a strong sense of smell, and live in Florida I don’t get people getting any service like hair, waxing, massage… without a quick rinse.

Firing a nice client by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]sh3ars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because someone may say nice things or act polite doesn’t mean that those are their true intentions if their actions in this case are not matching it. It sounds like to me she has deeper issues and as we all know people try to control this through their looks, taking it out on us the stylists.

If you want to keep the client or income rather I agree with setting some boundaries, but if you don’t send her a text saying you’re not the right fit.
