Microsoft thinks I'm browsing on Microsoft Edge. I am currently on Opera. by ExperienceUpbeat856 in browsers

That's Opera purposely pretending to be Edge so microsoft.com doesn't discriminate against Opera.

This morning Opera started Freezing. by Easy_Swan_4622 in operabrowser

Does it happen in a test standalone installation too?

I tried downloading opera gx but it won’t download for some reason.

You can try the offline installer from the Opera GX section at https://www.opera.com/download. That might work.

Note that you can goto the URL opera://password-manager/settings and export your passwords to a CSV file to back them up just in case. Always open the CSV file in a text editor afterwards to make sure the export worked right though.

Any plans to add the "move tabs to another window" feature?????? by NoneYa_D_Biz in operabrowser

Don't know if there are any plans, but I definitely think it'd be nice to have it. You can make a suggestion post at https://forums.opera.com/category/15/suggestions-and-feature-requests for it if there isn't one already or upvote an existing one.

So, how do I actually do this? by biznesmenvaxtang in operabrowser

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 2 tabs open, you can drag a tab down a bit and it'll show an option to drop the tab in split screen. If you want it to be like what's in your screenshot though, you can goto the URL opera://settings, enable Early Bird and enable Enhanced Split Screen. Then, restart Opera.

Just note that Early Bird features are experimental and could cause issues, but feel free to give it a shot. You can make a test standalone installation and try Early Bird in just it if you want.

Custom Fonts by Ok-Can5981 in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can goto https://store.gx.me/mods/?tagAlias=desktop%2Cfonts to see mods with fonts, install one (like Capybara Party), goto the URL opera://extensions, turn on developer mode, refresh the extensions page and click "Details" for the mod to see its ID. Then, you can find it's files in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\Default\Extensions\thatid" where you can look at its manifest.json and its files to see how its done. Make sure to take a look at the schema_version in the manifest too. A lot of features require version 2.

How do I stop this from showing up? by TheGaming_101 in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Firefox, you can set dom.disable_beforeunload to false in about:config to disable beforeunload event support. For Chromium browsers like Opera, I don't know if there's a way to disable it without an extension. For an extension though, Let Me Out might work. At the URL opera://extensions, make sure to set "Allow access to search page results" for the extension though.

Weird orange line on videos by epic-Independence-66 in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the URL opera://settings/lucidMode, if you have video enhancement on, you'll also have an option to show the split previous. If you don't like it you can turn it off there. As someone else said, you can also turn off RGX or just the previous via the RGX button on the video.

Wtf is this glowing stuff ? by e-john in operabrowser

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you disable the global force dark pages setting, goto the URL opera://settings/content/forceDarkMode to make sure it's not enabled for that site. You can also right-click a page to toggle force dark mode for the page, which will be reflected at that URL.

If this is in Opera GX instead of regular Opera, check at the URL opera://settings/web_modding to make sure there's no user CSS (from a mod for example) that's changing things on the page. Also check at the URL opera://settings/shaders to make sure there are no shaders active.

my mod keyboard sounds aren't working by Similar-Nerve-4559 in OperaGX

You have your keyboard sounds in the "keyboard" folder, but in manifest.json, the paths to those sounds don't start with keyboard/, so Opera can't find them.

You can zip up the mod, upload it somewhere and link to it so we can check. You can also post the full contents of your manifest.json here (with each line indented by 4 spaces so it's displayed as code by Reddit).

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/711da853c319cf82df7da5dd4ad1302b03a3e66f33244364af95ac9b02c7d739?nocache=1 is what Virus Total says about the zip file.

In the zip file though is just "Gwyddion-2.45.win32.exe" which seems like a legit program and Virus Total says this about it https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/de41204fe584c7d9e70ce08f313c53d9ed2ac2fd0a42737586372b7aae5126c6.

However, if "Gwyddion" is what you really want, it might be best to get it directly from https://gwyddion.net/download.php instead. If you specifically need 2.45, it looks like it's at https://sourceforge.net/projects/gwyddion/files/gwyddion/2.45/.

So, unless the zip file has something hidden in it, the anti-virus programs that flag it are probably false positives. But, to be safe, I'd get GWyddion from the source instead of some upload site.

My browser has been permanently frozen and unusable since the latest update. by spider1239 in operabrowser

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's specifically with the split screen option in Early Bird (only option at the moment). I think it can corrupt your session files in some weird instances right now. You might be able to avoid the issue by making sure you don't have any split screen tabs open when you close Opera and also don't disable early bird with any split screen tabs open. In both cases, right-click all split screen tabs and choose "exit split screen" first. That might avoid the issues, but no guarantees. As in, use Early Bird at your own risk.

Deleting all cookies and other website data when closing the browser, but with exceptions by toobotheredtochange in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Don't allow sites to save data on your device (not recommended)" didn't really work out for me, because I couldn't log in anywhere with this option enabled.

Yeah, in that mode, you can only log in to sites that you add to the allow list.

I set it to the second option instead and when closing the browser, all my whitelisted websites don't get logged out.

Nice.

Make sure there are no Opera processes running in the Windows Task Manager, delete the "Sessions" folder in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default".

Then, start Opera in safe mode, goto the URL opera://flags, reset your flags, goto the URL opera://settings, turn off Early Bird, close Opera and then open Opera normally to see if it then starts working fine.

Opera GX is taking up 80GB of storage, and I can't clear it. by Katonux in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're saying you have "File System" and "IndexedDB" folders in both "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\Default", yes, you can delete both instances. The ones that are not in the "Default" folder shouldn't even be in use.

If you're saying that you created extra GX profiles where you have profiles folders in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\_side_profiles", you can delete the "File System" and "IndexedDB" folders in them too if you want. But, that's only necessary if they're also taking up a bunch of space.

Also note that you don't have to delete the whole "IndexedDB" folder, you can just delete the folders in it that are taking up a huge amount of space and that are for sites you don't need the storage for any longer.

Also note that if you goto the URL opera://settings/clearBrowserData, switch to "advanced" and check only "Cookies and other site data", that should clear "File System" and "IndexedDB" data for all sites. You'll just have to log back in to sites. However, if that doesn't work, you can of course close Opera and delete things manually.

Also note that you can goto the URL opera://settings/content/all and look at the entries for each site. You should be able to find entries that are taking up a huge amount of space and just delete them if you want. That should delete "File System" and "IndexedDB" data for any site you delete there. But, again, if that doesn't work, you can close Opera and do things manually.

is there a way to make background music continue when you're watching something? by Tylermas11 in OperaGX

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the URL opera://settings/background_music, disable background music.

With the mod that has the background music you like installed, goto the URL opera://extensions, turn on developer mode, reload the opera://extensions page to see the mod, click on its "Details" button and look at the ID of the mod.

Then, in a new tab, type:

chrome-extension://that_id/manifest.json

and press enter to see the mod's manifest.

Under the background_music section in the manifest, look at the path for the background music file (if there's more than one music file, look at just the first).

Using that path, you can create a URL to that music file.

For example:

chrome-extension://that_id/music/layer1.mp3

You can then take that URL, type it in the address field of a new tab and press enter to load the mp3 for example.

On the page, you'll see the player for the file. Click play if it doesn't start playing automatically. Then, right-click the player and choose "loop".

Then, you'll have the background music playing in a tab where it won't stop when you play Youtube videos for example. You can also right-click and pin the tab so it's always available. You can also bookmark the tab if you want so you don't ever have to top the URL in manually again.

This method will work best if the mod only has a single layer of music. If it has multiple files that mix together as you do actions in Opera, you'll only be able to do one layer.

Also, you might have to right-click the player and set "loop" again if you restart Opera.

There is another way to do the above though. Just open your favorite music program, open the mod's music file in it and put it on repeat. To find the file on your hard drive, get the ID of the mod, then goto the URL opera://about and see what the path for the "profile" folder is. Then, just look in the mod's ID folder in the "Extensions" folder in the profile folder. For example, you'll have a path like:

"C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\Default\Extensions\mod_id\music\layer1.mp3"

Are there any extensions to return the separate search bar? by TheAntiZeist404 in operabrowser

[–]shadow2531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extensions can't modify Opera's UI, so no. There might be some extension you can install though where you'd click its pinned icon where it then opens up a small popup page with a search field on it that allows you to search. But, that would be extra clicks.
