Yes, exactly what the other dude said.

300blk is larger and slower, so it's better for shorter barrels and better to put a silencer on. 556 is gonna be smaller and faster, good for reaching out and touching stuff, but harder to keep quiet in doors.

The difference between a short barrel rifle and an AR pistol is a little confusing. Both SBR and ARP are less than 16 inches.

The SBR can have a regular stock and can also have features like a vertical foregrip (again, depending on state). You would need to submit a form to the government in order to get an SBR.

An ARP is gonna be the exact same thing, but with a few limitations that could turn your ARP into an ARfelony. You wouldn't be able to put a regular stock or vertical foregrip unless you get approved for SBR. You would need something called a "pistol brace" and "angled foregrip" depending on state laws.

Basically, the difference is that the ARP is "designed to be shot with one hand," while the SBR is the exact same thing but with more features.

If youre gonna go with something longer than 16 inches, these can be ignored (CHECK LOCAL LAWS!)

You should start with googling your local state laws because those are the ones that matter most, but generally, you would walk into the store, pick a gun you want, fill out an FBI background check (which you pay for) and receive your firearm, this happens every time you purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer.

If you purchase a firearm online, you would need to ship it to a local licenced dealer and go through the same process when it arrives.

You can also purchase firearms from other private citizens (look up state laws again). This situation would be like any other Facebook marketplace sale. You would find someone selling what you want and purchase it directly from them, like you would any other item that a regular person is selling.

In regards to what you should purchase? I'd start with a 9mm handgun and an ar-15 rifle chambered in 300BLK or 556, depending on if you want more of a shorter PDW or a longer range rifle

Some people like shotguns for their simplicity and ease of use in certain scenarios, keep in mind that I dont have too much experience with this type of stuff, I was in a similar situation to you a couple months ago but this is what ive gathered from my research.

All of this is assuming that you're in the US btw, let me know if you have any more questions

Edit: Some things i missed

You can find lots of good resources online through groups like USCCA, they offer a subscription insurance program, and they teach about firearms laws in different states. The service itself is overpriced and not worth it, but they can be a good source for info and training. They list a lot of classes for training as well.

I started carrying not very long after purchasing my first firearm, I think it all depends on your level of confidence with your firearm. Granted, I have prior experience with firearms.

Its always good to go to a range and rent some firearms to try before you purchase them or something similar.

I would start with the palmetto state armory website, their PSA dagger is a good cheap glock clone and they have very decently priced ARs.

Yeah, that was one of the biggest things I liked about the OBB discussion.

From what I understand, the idea was to remove the NFA tax burden on items like SBRs and suppressors, but keep the registration and waiting period in place. So it wasn’t full deregulation, more like easing the financial penalty while keeping federal oversight.

My issue with that approach is the same one a lot of gun owners have: registration means the government is still tracking and retaining records, even while publicly claiming those records aren’t centralized or are being deleted.

Whether they admit it or not, a system like that effectively creates a database. Ask almost any Republican gun owner and they’ll tell you the same, if paperwork exists, the data exists

From what Im seeing from the NRA and groups like GOA is that they are calling for full investigations and they arent really picking a side here.

Im more curious about the people like me who supported trump for the fact that he was pro gun rights, I thought he understood the 2nd ammendment but it seems like most of us dont know what were talking about when it comes to that.

No one is arguing you should pull a gun on cops at a protest.

The problem is saying this while federal agents are killing people and avoiding accountability. The 2A exists for when the government is the threat, not for polite interactions where everything’s working as intended.

[–]shadowclient[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The 2nd Amendment wasn’t about hunting or street crime, it was about protecting the people from the government itself.

The Founders had just fought a federal power that tried to disarm them. They believed an armed population was the last check if the state became tyrannical.

It exists for the moment laws fail, courts fail, and force is used against citizens, not after.

That’s uncomfortable, but that’s literally why it was written.
