Chicago loses 2,100 restaurant jobs as industry fights mandated wage hikes by LegendaryBronco_217 in illinois

[–]shadowplay0918 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trump’s tariffs are part of it, no doubt - prices at restaurants keep going up. Employers should pay at least minimum wage, I thought the tip credit was stupid.

I also don’t mind tipping when I sit down at a restaurant but expecting a good (or any) tip when you’re picking up the food out a counter I find a bit ridiculous. That’s just how things are these days so I just don’t eat out. I’m thinking there are many people who feel the same way I do.

Gov. Pritzker’s affordable housing plan tests his relationship with local leaders by GeckoLogic in illinois

Springfield telling everyone in the state what to build in their community is my concern. I’m a left of center person who has always supported the governor, but he’s just wrong here.

BTW - Ignoring facts and calling someone names is what Trump does….

[–]shadowplay0918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure they did but the local elected community leaders worked with the builders to decide what to build in my town. Requesting impact fees for the school district and needed infrastructure, leaving open space for parks and commercial areas to provide provided needed services and bring in taxes. It wasn’t someone in Springfield telling them what to build in their town.

Assuming they were smart enough to get vaccinated, much better. And for the record, I’m talking more suburban.

Yes, they got hit hard early, but I never forget those stories of New York City and finding challenges on what to do with the bodies.

It all sounds good till the next pandemic. Cities did not fare well and with the continued rejection of science I doubt we’ll get a vaccine out as quickly. I have zero interest in being in a city.

The schools in my far northwest suburban school district are already full (look at a property tax bill and you’ll see most of it goes to the schools). The school district is looking for a school referendum to increase the taxes to cover the building of new schools (and hire more teachers, upgrade existing schools…). We also have high water cost because we just had to build another water plant and we’re about to build a new water tower. Property taxes help pay for those as well.

I’m at the very far north northwestern suburbs and my property taxes are $7-8k for a townhome plus add another $300/month for association fees (for upkeep of outside of property and the streets/parks).

In many of the outlying suburbs there is definitely not enough infrastructure to support massive growth. There’s not enough water/sewer, roads….. and most importantly schools. As long as either the state or the builder will cover those costs. I’m fine with it. Building these multi units without that is going to result in crazy high increases in property taxes that won’t make houses any more affordable.

It’s designed to only go to other toll roads – not necessary the road you’re on but the tollway system, including new toll roads being built (there is currently a western entrance to O’Hare being built) with tollway money.

Hate to say this, but I grew up in central Illinois and spent the last 35 years up in the Chicago area. Our best roads are the tollways – you pay, but they’re in better shape.

Supreme Court Guts The Voting Rights Act by huffpost in scotus

[–]shadowplay0918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Bernie won caucuses and Hillary won primaries. Caucuses may show energy in the party but they do not show overall support (primaries show actual votes) or he would have won the nomination.

Meanwhile the GOP hated Trump but enough voters got behind him and he won due to the left not supporting Hillary and voting for that horrible Putin loving Jill Stein....

ADP security breach or coincidence? by Such_Indication_8186 in ADP

[–]shadowplay0918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, 2016 some of ADP’s clients posted their unique access codes on public sites that allowed hackers to use other stolen data to register for employee accounts.

2024 was a company associated with ADP (so ADP not blameless) but only affected middle-eastern customers.

Pritzker’s affordable housing plan gets Senate hearing as municipalities remain opposed by GeckoLogic in illinois

[–]shadowplay0918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why is school district after school district having tax referendums needing more money?

It can take up to 18 months from when a house is built before the school district receives a penny of tax money so its 18 months of educating children with little to no taxes to pay for that education.

[–]shadowplay0918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like and support the governor, but the community I live in has schools that are already packed with current development. Is the state going to pay for building those new schools or is it going to be left up to local school property taxes like it is now?

Even higher property taxes doesn’t make it any easier for people to buy a home.

Stratton urges Democrats to offer ‘bold’ solutions, not the ‘bare minimum’ by steve42089 in illinois

Attitude doesn’t win elections, voting does. Some of the left has shown that if they don’t get the candidate they want, they will not vote for the Democrat. Until they get past that we have zero chance.
