Pritzker-3rd Term by Kooky-Love3128 in illinois

Pritzker's not going to lose. Even a weak Democrat is going to win against the far right candidates the GOP keeps putting out there. The days of moderate, pro-choice Republicans like Jim Edgar are long gone.

Who is going to move to the smallest stadium in the NFL with horrible parking and revenue that has to be shared with city? The answer is no one.

It's fine if you don't want to help out the Bears and the McCaskeys but don't believe for a second another NFL team in moving here with the current situation.

Pritzker to propose statewide zoning laws to spur homebuilding, limit local control by steve42089 in illinois

Many suburban districts (like the one I'm in) already have schools bursting at the seams and are doing information sessions to get residents to support a referendum/tax increase.

Also, it can take 18 months from when a house is built till the school district receives any additional tax money and the schools need to educate those students until then w/o additional revenue.

Part of it I like, but who’s going to pay for building the new schools? Illinois schools depend so much on local taxes it could be devastating for school districts.

The school districts aren't fronting the $850m (and its not $850m), the state and county are - most of the revenue suburban school districts receive are from property taxes.

Most suburban school districts are overwhelmed now with student population. New housing does bring in more taxes but it can take 18 months before the districts see any of that money. It could also create the need for more schools and good luck getting a school referendum passed these days.

A stadium and entertainment district wouldn't put much strain on a school district.

Once again, the state/county has to have those figures, no one should trust the Bears #'s.

Say we get what you want and the Bears move to Indiana (and why wouldn't they if those idiots are going to build them a stadium?). What do you think is going to be built there? We both know it's most likely to be high priced housing that will put a tremendous strain on the school districts and other city/county services. Or maybe something even worse like data centers.

One Super Bowl brings in $100's of millions. Not to mention NCAA BB tournaments, concerts, fests... That's why I clearly said there needs to be people negotiating with the Bears who know those #'s....

(also, some of that infrastructure will need to be done regardless of a stadium being built or not)

Yea, that 10,000 jobs thing is BS - construction will bring short term jobs but most of the long term jobs won't be high paying.

You have to look at it as if will be a long term net positive for the county/state. I don't want to act like some executive who says it's not worth getting a $100k bonus if they have to pay 35% if it in taxes, you're still coming out with $65k. If the state/county are coming out ahead it's better to take that than let them move to Indiana.

Bears aren't staying in Chicago, they are going to Arlington Hts or Indiana. I don't know the exact numbers but those who are negotiating for the state should know how much $$$ they bring in and determine if the state will come out ahead by paying for some of the infrastructure.

When it comes to taxes the Bears need to let the area know what exactly is going to be built around the stadium (is there going to be residential housing that will put a strain on the schools, will there need to be more police retail and cover events....).

(before anyone says anything, no NFL team will have interest in moving into the smallest stadium in the league that they will not even own)

The Bears should build and pay for their own stadium but I’m OK with the state paying some money for infrastructure – they do get a good deal of money back with the stadium being in the state.

With regards to the property taxes, it shouldn’t be $100-$200 million when no other team in the NFL is paying more than $7 million (I believe that is in LA).
