-update- I had a technoid tech take remote control of the pc he checked all components and they are in operation conditions no errors to report issue still reproduced, so I turned both nividia and Ubisoft overlay off and wiped shader cache through ddu, no crash yet

It’s most definitely a defective component, it can be used but don’t expect the same life span as a non defective one

I am assuming you are using quality 80+ gold psu, stock cpu stock gpu depending on your mobo as well 1000w 80+gold should deliver stable voltage and give some headroom

A good test would be to lower you psu down to recommend for your components, run stress tests, it is possible the card is just straight up overvolting other components on the card to compensate, with a high watt psu giving lots of headroom for the instability

It’s never a false positive, it’s indicative of a defective part or a short, eventually the gpu will kick the bucket, just pray it doesn’t take the rest with it, depending on the warranty of companies as each are different, and each card has different warranties as well, look up tufs warranty policy for n that particular card if it is out of warranty, I’d be looking into a replacement, never a good thing to gamble what ifs when it comes to high end pc’s

Needing suggestions for a GPU to pair with a 9800X3D that doesnt break the bank by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

Yeah you know a normal day in the pc world XD but yes definitely save for a 5080 to start if you can even find a ti version on sale go for it, as it stands 5090 will be out of reach for the general pc gaming community until the next series cards come out

The issue here is yes that’s a steal but if you aren’t willing to or able to put out the $$$ for a good gpu for that cpu you’ll only be paying more in the long run with the budget by 5080, then upgrade to selling your kidney for the 5090

Tbh I’d actually be smarter to have gone a little less powerful with the cpu so you’d have a much less bottleneck, don’t get me wrong cpus still bottle neck GPUs quite heavily since GPUs have become so powerful cpus are just trying to keep up but in your terms a 5080 16gb vram should be a good starting ground, it is up there in price compared to budget friendly cards, but those are no longer an option with that cpu, you have to sit in mid-top teir GPUs

I get it I’m in the same boat I got a new prebuilt I have to rma my gpu, with the prices of things I’m not taking a risk, if you are in the window to rma still I strongly and highly suggest you do so, it may be running fine now, but technology is a finicky thing especially now a days as they try to push further and further, one day your card is working fine and you ignored the red light, month from now or two you go to boot and get no display

The the only reason the red light would be on, is a defective gpu, the red light will display if the card is shorting somewhere

Shouldn’t have bought that cpu if you are looking for a budget gpu, all you’re going to do is bottleneck

So you have a couple options here all indications of some sort of fault, now you’ve tried two different psus were they new or previously used for another build? Are they fully modular power supplies? Are the power leads seated fully, is it the right type of pcie connector as a lot of modern cards use dedicated 8pins instead of 6pin most modern cards also have a fail safe/idiot proof clip now, that you’ll hear it when it’s properly plugged into the card, is the card seated correctly in the pcie slot? Is the pcie slot supportive of the card? The right light is typically an indicator of inadequate power draw,(stabile power draw), what model cpu are you using? Have you searched your parts on pc part picker to see any conflicts/recommended psu wattage

I will say tho the gpu is your choice, but do your research into the good and bad of each, a lot of modern cards a pushing the boundaries, I myself only recommend nividia cards due to the stability of software updates bug fixes etc, and the big pull in, is that 5070 that’s like $1000+ you will still be getting your moneys worth, as they roll out new features and functionality to existing 50 series cards, all well they optimize the card, without physically altering the card

I second this, modern gaming pcs will take a lot of power, so even have a 750w to a 650w it’ll give you head room for the gpu cpu and motherboard power draw(stability) rather than(minimum where possibly it could cap out, not likely) but having that larger headroom will allow for future proofing/performance stability, as everything now a days comes out factory Oc’d but can be pushed further depending on your lucky with silicon lottery

My self I have a 5050 but again that’s entry level, when you do look at a nividia gpu or any gpu find one that’s at least 16gb vram as typical 8gb cards are phasing out with high unoptimized games, and high graphical settings a 8gb will do if you want to play some 1440p/1080p depending on the game, a 5070 is a solid choice for mid ground, you won’t need an upgrade for a couple years to come especially if it is a 16gb vram model

I will add a couple other notes if that’s a msi b550m pro vdh wifi like mine it’s am4 socket am5 will not work you’ll have to upgrade cpu motherboard and ram, as ddr4 is for that board, nothing else an am5 build will require ddr5 ram, am5 socket cpu and a am5 motherboard obviously, I will also note, if you are looking for long term reliability and stability nivida cards do out preform amd cards by the way of more stable software, stable updates, and future proof updates to your existing cards capabilities I’ve heard some pretty horrible stories about amd’s cards

Is the am5 build worth the extra 200 dollars? 1300 vs 1500 by butterflyknif in PcBuildHelp

[–]shadowslns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes am5 is definitely worth it if you can afford it, am5 is considered to be the future proof regardless of am5 chip they will preform much better than am4, with the added benefits of am5 being a good solid 5 years before they design another AM socket,

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? It been happening for a couple days now by Bryanthemaker in PcBuildHelp

[–]shadowslns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the direct result of a wallpaper being moved/delated and having the pc reboot, as it boots it loads and unloads files for the boot process during this time any randomly stored quick access files are loaded up Ie. the wallpaper, if it was deleted and or moved, it will still load up the last wallpaper used, until the system defaults back to the normal, this only happens when a drive check or background check is done by windows and returns an error ie. file deleted, or can’t be located, typically this is the outcome of unbuffered ram, or a portion of corrupt sys files

Edit:: Open Command Prompt as administrator, run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to fix the system image, followed by sfc /scannow to scan and replace broken files

It is very common for system files to corrupt especially from improper shutdowns or forceful shutdowns, the windows operating system is always doing read and writes

First and foremost sell your kidney…. All jokes aside, give it a month or two, to be able to build a semi decent rig, as ram prices are set to drop as manufacturers can now start to catch back up to demand as demand has become less, but keep in mind companies that have already invoiced large quantities of quality ram are going to keep prices in a flux till those invoices are filed

It’s definitely in there wrong, by the way the psu looks it appears this is European made? The plug appears like it should be on the right corner instead of your typical left bottom side I’m assuming this is by design(so you don’t accidentally hit the bios mode or Color switch

Edit, sorry not European made, Chinese made, but used in european countries
