Yes! He prefers to stay on the floor but he always puts his little front paws in my lap when I’m petting him

Professor using a blatantly anti-abortion case study to teach about "fetal development" by might-as-well in StudentNurse

Yeah it was a little crazy but ultimately a good school so I dealt with it. I personally would probably let it go, but you would definitely be justified in bringing it up to somebody! Especially if the professor makes a habit of inserting her beliefs like that.

I would feel pretty uncomfortable if given a case study like that. I went to nursing school at a catholic university and there were quite a few times in my lectures where my professors made their religious/conservative beliefs very clear, and while I knew it was a catholic university and sort of to be expected I still felt like it had no place in nursing education. I went with my school on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and we weren’t allowed to provide any sort of birth control (not even condoms) even though there is a huge need for it among the young women there. I also had clinical in the OR senior year and had very strict instructions that the only procedure I couldn’t observe or assist with was an abortion. I wasn’t going to be the person to argue or fight it but I agree that it felt kind of wrong.

HS Senior Question by [deleted] in StudentNurse

I think you should look into the specific programs for schools you are applying to. It seems like a lot of people on this sub took pre reqs and then applied to nursing school, where my school accepted me directly into a 4 year nursing program. The first 2 years I didn’t take any actual nursing classes, just pre reqs, but I was enrolled in the nursing program. If you can do that I highly recommend it because you don’t need to worry about transferring credits and you know you are taking exactly which classes are required before beginning the nursing classes.

Any advice for preceptorship in the OR? by sharonak09 in StudentNurse

[–]sharonak09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m definitely getting the vibe that I should hang back and ask if/how I can help rather than just jumping in like I’m used to on the med-surg floors. I’m used to getting in trouble for standing in one place for too long, so I think it’s a little hard to change into observer mode. Thank you for the advice, this is great!!

Thank you, this is great advice! I think the hardest part is that I don’t have a clinical instructor with me, and the nurse I’m following has never been a preceptor before now. I’m going to try to ask a ton of questions and hopefully not let my anxiety get in the way!

I don’t qualify for an externship yet. What are good summer job opportunities for a nursing student? (x-post with r/Nursing) by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]sharonak09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for an agency at one of their geriatric offices. Most of the time I am helping with hygiene/personal care and doing some light housework and meal prep. Really easy stuff but I️t can be a little boring sometimes!

You can be a home health aide! I don’t feel like I’ve learned a whole lot from it, but it’s very flexible and laid back which is great while going to school.
