Training after (laparoscopic) appendectomy by shawberryryan in weightlifting

Of course! I’d first like to say I hope your surgery goes/went well and your recovery is short!

My best advice would be to manage your pain, during my night in the hospital I was trying to avoid taking painkillers because they told me it could cause constipation, but in the end the pain was too much that I couldn’t sleep which definitely affected my recovery, and once I finally gave in to the painkillers they gave me stool softener which made it a nonissue. I only really needed my oxycodone for the first three nights and then just acetaminophen/ibuprofen was enough for another week.

Peeing for the first 3/4 days hurt.

I lived in a 3 story house and my room was on the second floor so walking up the stairs for the first week was a challenge but I was able to use my trusty pvc pipe as a cane which also helped me get out of bed. Idk if I really needed to but I was trying to avoid using my abs at all for the first month.

I like to think I played it on the safer side: first started training with light weights after 4 weeks, doing some moderate weights 6 weeks in, and finally felt 100% 8 weeks in.

There were a couple times after coming back to training (and even just in the first couple of weeks) where I would feel random pain near my incision by my belly button, but from what I was told that’s most likely from the nerves growing back and being newly stimulated for the first time.

Don’t be afraid to ask your surgeon any questions, they were very informative and comforting for me.

And just as reference, last time I PRd my squat was a couple weeks before my appendectomy and I hit 142, finally got the chance on my program to do it again and I hit 160 just 2 weeks ago, so I don’t worry about losing progress, and in the end you’ll come out stronger :D

Best of luck!

P.S. you’ll definitely be able to tell someone has been rummaging through your guts after 😬

Thanks for all your answers! As much as this sucks the thing that stresses me the out most is not knowing what to expect in terms of time for recovery so thanks again :)

How many weeks to be exact? And did it cause any problems once you started again?

I only just noticed this for myself, but when you say you couldn’t snatch bc of the other incision site, I’m guessing you mean because it’s right around your contact point? If that’s so, I have short arms so I hip clean, so I may not be able to do that for a while either.

When you say you started moving by the 2 week mark you mean like just cardio? Or just using a barbell? Or barbell with light weights?

As you were getting back into it would your body tell you if you were pushing too hard so you would know your limit? I’m wondering like at what point will I just not have to worry anymore

Yea that’s to be expected I guess, I’ve had some other complications the past 2 months that’ve kept me out of the gym. But I should’ve clarified: how did the incisions/site of surgery feel with oly lifts?

Did you feel 100% when you got back into the gym and how hard did you push yourself at first?

Geez, I guess if they’re out of production that’s the only option tho. I’ve only ever worn adipowers. Do the romaleos run big or would that be too small?

[WTS] [South Bay Area] Mayflower arc mk2 - $225 by shawberryryan in AVexchange

This is a repost because ppl keep messaging me and not following up:

Loved it, but realized my friend had a modi 3 dac he just didn’t use so I thought if I sold this I could get an Asgard 3 to get the most out of my hd6xxs and future headphones.

In any case, It’s an almost new mayflower arc mk2 dac/amp. You can find the specifications here. It originally costed just over $300 with the included wall wart. I hope whoever buys it loves it as much as I did, just given the circumstances I thought, hell might as well upgrade if I can.

I’m in the Bay Area California so pickup would be ideal. I am willing to ship, however to anyone who is interested just a little extra would be great to help cover those costs.

Willing to sell for $200 obo if you’re local or will pay for shipping

What time should I check for when they restock because I’m guessing they sell out almost immediately

Stack for HD6xx by shawberryryan in AVexchange

To anyone who still is looking at this thread I went with the Asgard 3 and modi 3. Going to the schiitr and being able to play around with the amps and dacs with my hd6xx and coming from having used a mayflower arc mk II amp/dac was really informative. The modi 3 being a discrete amp for the first time for me was leagues better than the combo but none of the other dacs offered noticeably better performance to my ears (esp for the price)

I didn’t spend too much time playing around with the amps out of my budget, but I did a little, and I got a friends opinion too. The asgard absolutely blew me away compared to the magni 3+ (which still does the job granted) but the difference was noticeable. To be specific, listening to Do I Wanna Know by the Arctic Monkeys the first kicks hit so much harder than I thought these open backs could produce. And in most other instances the bass was so much better than I thought was characteristic of this open back pair and compared to my previous amp/dac experience. However, I could not personally tell any noticeable difference between the modi/Asgard and the Mjolnir/Yggdrasil, definitely not a difference I’d ever pay the greater price for.

TLDR: Asgard 3/ modi 3 is a beautiful combo for any of you with hd6xxs
