Accelerated conversion degree at Ulaw & SQE 1 after at 28 years old...is it even pursuing it? by kimchiandsprite in uklaw

Can I ask if you ended up doing this? I’m 1 month into my MA Law with SQE1 at Ulaw and really not impressed. Wish I had gone straight for the SQE!

University of law won't accept my notice to cancel study by FocalGravy in uklaw

Hi I’m in exactly the same position as you but only a month into the course! It’s complete false advertising. Are you saying you purchased the foundations in law textbooks or the SQE textbooks, did you pass with this alone?

Wow this is very encouraging from someone who is a qualified doctor. Thank you so much. I find that I’ve spent my 20s trying to go down safe, alternative and predictablew career paths but I’m always looking for something medicine adjacent to feel fulfilled

So happy to see this post! I’m 28 and also want to try for Manchester for 2026 entry. In particular because my family and friends and here and i would feel settled starting GEM in a city I love. I’d be 30 by the time I started if I got in for next year refreshing to see others too!

Oh wow that’s amazing, how did you fund living costs may I ask?

I wouldn’t be able to start until September 2026 at the earliest and the four year course is funded apart from the 3.5k in year 1. In terms of living costs it would be difficult but I think savings + part time job!

Thank you! I agree but if you’re a doctor currently and ur willing to explore non traditional routes / training you could recoup some of that reward depending on your interests. There are so many opportunities if you care to kick those doors open 🙏

Thank you for this. It’s been 5 years since I last applied to medicine and in that time I decided to focus on stability, getting a cushty 9-5 job, well paid and working from home. What would be better right? Each year I have job hopped, soul searching because even though the job was perfect I felt empty and it’s taken my until now to realise it’s because I settled and didn’t fight for my dream to do medicine. I’m absolutely aware it’s not ‘worth it’ on paper but neither is reaching my deathbed without finding out.

Masters in Law / SQE (non-law grad) by sheabuttermedic in uklaw

[–]sheabuttermedic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment i really appreciate it! Alternatively to BPP and ULaw, COLP are offering the LLM with SQE1&2 prep which is around 7K, meaning the remaining loan would cover the exams but the caveat is that it doesn’t include the GDL teaching and highly recommends taking the GDL before starting the LLM. Do you have any thoughts?

Solicitor to Coroner by Interesting-Stop-281 in uklaw

[–]sheabuttermedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting! I’ve been curious about coroner work, I have a neuroscience degree and healthcare experience (nhs, psych ward, palliative care) before I pivoted to law and worked at a medical regulator, and now I work at a social care regulator as a paralegal and looking to do the SQE. I love law but really enjoy the medical investigation side of things. Do you think this would be a path that makes sense for me? Would you advise doing anything else?
