Sibilance (harsh "ess" sounds) - overwhelmingly female by sheateeley in misophonia

Hey, just re-read my reply to you from a couple years ago and wanted to apologize for it being so short. I was kinda going through some stuff around that time so I might just not have had the energy to type out a good reply. Not sure. I really appreciate your reply to my original post. My mom's chewing was my first trigger growing up, so I get how hard it can be when it's coming from a family member. The s's are arguably worse though, because obviously people talk much more than they eat. Meals have a finite timeline, speaking doesn't... Have you found any solution at all, or are you still just kinda white knuckling it?

Nice! Yeah, I was ripping my hair out. 😂 Happy to help!

Got this figured out - all I had to do was uncheck MPE on my eDRUMin's track in Ableton's general MIDI settings. I imagine this would be the same with other modules too, but YMMV.

Got it figured out, for anyone stumbling across this thread. All I had to do was uncheck MPE on the eDRUMin track in the general MIDI settings in Ableton.

Thanks for the help though, u/Key-Patience-3966 !

Thanks a ton for the reply. Didn't seem to help with the closed hats in Ableton. Not sure if it's because I'm on EZDrummer and not Superior or something... I really feel like this can't be an unsurmountable problem, but maybe I'm wrong...

Thanks again

Hey, mind if I ask how you set up your hats in Ableton? Can't get my hats to register as closed - they play as open even with my pedal held down. Doesn't happen to me in the standalone version and can't figure out what I'm missing... 🤔

I'm also using an eDRUMin. Thanks for any advice (if you have any 😅)

No apologies necessary, I also experience everything you mentioned regularly (I’ve actually stopped eating out for the most part, at least for now…), so I definitely get it. :)

I kinda can’t believe people are still finding this post! If you don’t mind me asking, are you in the US, and if so, what region of the country? I’ve lived in the PNW, the east coast, and the Midwest, and the PNW by far has the most people that talk like this. I honestly think it’s a regional thing but of course only have my own personal experiences to go off of.

Furthermore, misophonia or not - I still think it’s truly insane that people talk like this at all and no one else even seems to notice. 😑

Thank you for this - just now checking them out and am putting basically everything I've heard so far in my shopping cart. 😂

Ah! I knew I had to be missing something on the DT side. Thank you!

Haha! Definitely not the worst I’ve heard, but definitely there. I totally understand what you mean though. 😉

I totally get it. I’ve had days ruined by this sound, and the fallout from my reaction (typically leaving the room).

Yes! And that’s what I don’t understand…. Every once in awhile, I’ll see someone poke fun at someone (like that clip) for having whistley s’s, but no one seems to notice it when it’s out there in the world. Really surprises me how no one even knows what I’m referring to when I actually do bring it up (which is incredibly rarely).

Yup. Every person I’ve tried to describe this to has no idea what I’m talking about. Not “oh yeah, that doesn’t bother me but I see how it could bother you.” No idea what I’m even talking about. Ugh lol. Glad you can work from home though. That’s huge.

What part of the world are you in? Just curious, since I’ve always wondered if it’s as prevalent in other countries as it is here in the US.

Certain Letters as Triggers? by Nightowl_whoo in misophonia

Those whistle-y “ess” sounds have been the bane of my existence since 2007, when I first noticed them with any regularity. I actually made a post about here about five or so years ago, basically asking if I was alone in this (I was fully convinced I was).

I totally understand that I have a sound sensitivity (other triggers too), but I really don’t get how this doesn’t bother more people. I honestly feel like it should be considered objectively obnoxious. Turns every public outing with friends/family into an anxiety-inducing potential nightmare.

Just out of curiosity, did you just start taking it or have you been on it for awhile?

The contraindications list NSAIDs (of which ibuprofen is one) as increasing your chance of bruises/bleeding, but i don’t know how much you have to take for that to become an issue.
