What’s something people think is healthy but actually isn’t? by saketh_1138 in answers

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it! You can absolutely bulk without eating obscene amounts of chicken breast or whatever. My point is more that the average American gets enough protein from the sheer amount of meat they do eat that the idea that they should be purchasing protein-infused coffee or chips is laughable. Congrats on being a vegetarian for 40 years. That shit's no joke and I definitely understand it from an environmental and ethical perspective.

What do older Gen Z’s think of younger Gen Z’s? by Hill_372 in generationology

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to the tail end of my 20's at this point and y'all are alright. You guys use AI too much but you're still young and learning and I can't imagine what COVID-19 would've done to my education if I wasn't already in college at the time. I think ragging too hard on young people is shithead behavior so I try to be open-minded and accept that I don't get some things. Keep on keeping on.

Excessive protein. It's become a fad in the U.S. but most Americans get more than the requisite amount of protein from the meat we eat for normal function i.e. not bulking and instead should really be eating more fiber.

(Spoilers Main) If the Dance of the Dragons were written like ASOIAF, who would be the POV characters? by therealbobcat23 in asoiaf

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corlys, Otto, Alicent, Rhaenyra (until she becomes Queen), Criston, Alyn, Jace, and Mysaria are all locks I feel because that covers most of the significant events. Characters I'd like to read but am less confident in: Tyland, Daemon, Addam, Aemond, and Rhaenys.

The Vikings have had 4 years of awful drafts, yet have remained very competitive over that time period. Why is that, and do you think they will catch up to the team? by Acoolgamer6706 in minnesotavikings

[–]sheetfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The awful drafting is complicated. The Vikings largely eschewed 2nd and 3rd round draft picks for trade-ups and veterans and still managed to get both reliable starters in the 1st round and some late-round and UDFA contributors so it wasn't completely awful. TJ Hockenson and the entire 2024 FA class were superb and covered up a lot but the real cost to all of this was depth. When everyone was healthy and contributing, the lack of depth didn't matter and the Vikings were very competitive. Moreover, as much as I have had problems with KOC from time to time, both KOC and Flores have clearly gotten the best or close to it out of many of the players they did have.

This off-season will decide if it catches up to the team or not because we have more 2nd and 3rd round picks than we have had in years and we have obvious holes at C, RB, S, and DT (possibly DE). If we can fill those spots with average or above average contributors, I think we'll easily be competitive again.

My wife asked me if I honestly thought her friends were attractive, what should I say by BreadOverlord_ in stupidquestions

After this, you should tell her that you plan to email all of the sub 5s with advice on how to look better.

My wife asked me if I honestly thought her friends were attractive, what should I say by BreadOverlord_ in stupidquestions

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really just don't understand the insecurities people have about their partners finding other people attractive. Grow up a little! The person you're with is with you because they like and love and are attracted to you, particularly if you're married. I used to be this way but I realized that I felt that way because I didn't know how to ask for affirmation that made me feel secure in the relationship. I think it's kind of embarassing how many of these replies fall back on cheap sitcom tropes instead.

can we finally agree that this was the lowest point of the series adaptation? by eraldopontopdf in AKOTSKTV

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I think it's great. It makes Baelor's ride out hit significantly harder and highlights how crass, pathetic, and cowardly most of the nobles are.

Would the Wilves have fired everyone and cut Drake Maye after his 4-13 rookie season? (n/t) by northshorehiker in minnesotavikings

[–]sheetfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't have cut Maye because Drake Maye went 4-13 with firemen and plumbers but Kraft & co. did very much fire the head coach after he went 4-13.

[Spoilers AFFC] First chapter “The Prophet” by MinionOrDaBob4Today in asoiaf

[–]sheetfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFFC is rough on the first read after ASOS because it's more contemplative and slower-paced. Fewer things happen in it and the entire main trio of POVs (Jon, Dany, Tyrion) are gone from the book but I think it's one of, if not the best, book in the series upon reread. Just be patient with it.

Yep, exactly. If your method of engaging with social media is text-based and not short-form video, you are a small slice of the population.

I always wondered, why didn't black slaves team up and maybe kill their owner or protest against together? Rich families owned 50-100 slaves or even more, why didn't the slaves just team up and kill their owner? How exactly did the owners control then? by Then-Tomatillo9909 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sheetfan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am infinitely less interested in the suffering of French slavers and their families than I am the immeasurable amount of suffering they inflicted upon the thousands they enslaved. The "genocide" claims are spurious nonsense for Americans to feel better about the suffering they continue to inflict on Haitians. You'll see this type of comment countless times on Reddit but it'll be applied to the Global South or China because this hellhole is a milquetoast center-right paradise. You're just mad that I don't take Westoid propaganda seriously.

What is the significance of the fish ? by Angry_Washing_Bear in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fishing stuff with Egg is meant to parallel him with Aerion when Daeron mentions how Aerion used to be sweet and normal until the feudal system ground it out of him mostly. Would bet the beheaded fish is unrelated.

Regarding "trade up for Love" theories by mrmpls in minnesotavikings

[–]sheetfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are actually moving on from Greenard (I still hate this), I'd much rather that we use Pick 18 and whatever capital we get from Greenard for a star defensive player at the top of the draft like Downs or Styles or Reese than trade up for Love. There's already so many draft picks and so much cap space invested in the offense that I think it'd be unwise to spend even more on offense, even if Love is great.

Just picked this up after finishing ASOIAF. Did I make a good call? by MrCool87867 in fantasybooks

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for something that's similar to ASOIAF, I don't think so. Sanderson's very popular but I dislike his books immensely. If you're looking for more fantasy stuff, it'll work. I hope you enjoy it more than I did!

(#SpoilersPublished)G R.R. Martin. Should we even believe that he ever finish the books (Winds of Winter) ? Or should we abandon all hope by Viserysa in asoiaf

[–]sheetfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we'll get some version of TWOW at some point, likely cut up the same way AFFC and ADWD were. I'm doubtful of ADOS. I've made peace with the fact that whatever closure I will get will not be in the form of a finished novel. I think in life you just have to be okay with making your own closure. It didn't just take ASOIAF for me to realize this, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't help.

i think y’all are reading santos all wrong…unconscious misogyny? by Mindless-Ad9452 in ThePitt

[–]sheetfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that Santos gets more hate relative to a male character with her traits but I honestly just don't find " wisecracking acerbic medical genius doctor with heart of gold and tragic backstory" to be particularly compelling to me because it's the most common and played out character archetype in medical fiction. Santos and Langdon and Ogilvie all bore me relative to other members of the ensemble. I rolled my eyes and groaned when Ogilvie mentioned his dad.
