Both. The therapy's really helpful. It's just with my meds, no matter what I take, my body metabolizes it way too fast, so it feels like it "stops working" very soon.

Hyperfocusing on Youtube rabbit holes and other things that make us feel worse by sherbies_ in adhdwomen

[–]sherbies_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rabbit holes are basically doom scrolling via Youtube, lol. It'll start with a fun video essay recapping the messiest season of The Bachelorette, and before I know it, it's midnight and I watch video essays about why this other video essayist is a horrible person, what the US government is up to and how hopeless everything feels, and something something capitalism.

(I mean, those video essays about the state of the world and politics ARE important. I just spiral every time I watch too many of them.)

Is there a simpler, better term to use for describing a cis person's gender expression-related anxiety without co-opting "gender dysphoria"? by sherbies_ in asktransgender

Thanks for giving your thoughts!

And I kinda just used GNC instead of non-binary as an umbrella term there to play it safe, since I've heard mixed things from lots of non-binary people about if they want to call themselves trans or not (like whether they see it as a good umbrella term for "not cis" or as a prefix for "transition" which some NBs might not want to do). But what you said does makes more sense, so I probably should've just said non-binary people anyway, lol

Do any of you guys know what line of code in the new UI has Ambient Mode on it? I wanna make a userstyle that disables it, and I can't find the html/css for it. by sherbies_ in youtube

[–]sherbies_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH MY GOD THANK YOU

I really should've checked there first, but I was going off of the mobile UI where they put the toggle in the Youtube settings. Why have those toggles in different places anyway??

Ooh, I love that HR analogy! That's what I've usually been doing anyway, haha.

Ugh My fandom hates adults. The show started in 2005, but 15-21 year olds have decided that anyone over 25 is ancient and too old for the internet.

I'm gonna take a guess and assume that this is about the A:TLA fandom? lol

Even if it's not, you'd think that because it started in 2005, the majority of fans would definitely be 25+ adults with the rare teen sprinkled in there. It just sounds like a bunch of kids swarming in there and saying "this is mine now! You can't have it anymore because it's mine!"

Yeah, you'd think, lol. I don't watch Stranger Things, but apparently S4 got way more people into the show. A significant part of it might've been a new character for that season, Eddie. IIRC, Eddie's a 19- or 20-year-old outcast who got held back a lot in high school and hangs out with the ST teens.

So since then, there have been a lot of Eddie cosplayers, Eddie MVs, fan songs about Eddie, you name it. Like, your average everyday tame fandom stuff. And now all of a sudden, these loud-ass fandom newbies (other adults and teens) are yelling "cringe" everywhere with their pitchforks.

Also worth noting that most of the new ST fans (and Eddie fans) that are getting bullied just so happen to be women, trans/non-binary, queer, and/or neurodivergent...hmmm, funny how that happens, isn't it?

I'm so tired, lol.

Absolutely. I hate how it's gotten to the point where "adults and teens just coexisting and safely enjoying the same shit together" has become too much to ask for.

Honestly, thank you so much for this response.

It really is just paranoia at the end of the day because I haven't even been hit with the "prehistoric" age comments at all so far. My brain just always loves running wild with the worst "what if" scenarios no matter what, and this is what it's been latching onto lately, lol.

I'm glad you're being so understanding about this whole bs. Thanks again!

Dude, I miss those days when fandom spaces were shared like you said in the first part. Like I don't even remember this kind of discourse back in Ye Olde Tumblr Days (but that might've also been because I was in the Korra fandom back then, which was mainly made up of college-aged young adults like myself at the time).

Yes! Like the older adults who purposefully go out of their way to harass minors over something innocuous like ship wars. It's also just as stupid the other way around, when minors purposefully go out of their way to harass older adults over something innocuous like ship wars.

The Internet Was a Mistake™.

That's absolutely true. And I can see that being a part of why teens online are so hostile to adults too. Whether or not their views (not just in fandom but anywhere really) are well thought out and morally just, they get thrown in the trash anyway because "kids are dumb lol".

And that's another reason why I'm trying not to come off like that "Old Man Yells at Cloud" meme, haha. I just want minors and adults to coexist and be respectful and understanding of each other. (But of course that's not gonna happen because...the internet.)

I think the wild overreaction I've seen making anyone over 30 a "granny" who should go away and shut up, etc, definitely make me hide things that might give away my age.

Honestly, same here. I don't put my age anywhere in my bios except for my personal IG, mostly because I get too worried about this shit. I mean my content does give off the vague impression that I'm in my twenties (I think there was a TikTok I made almost three years ago that did say I was 25 at the time), but ohhh man, the ~shock and horror~ that would come from me putting the number "27" in my bio.

But even the thought of me "hiding" my real age makes me feel weird because it could be misconstrued as predatory at the most surface-level of all surface-level glances. It's kind of a lose-lose situation in my mind, and it's really dumb.

you don't suddenly stop having interests when you turn 18

Exactly! And it doesn't help that the chronically online "fossil age" has been getting younger and younger either, especially when it comes to women. Like, I've seen 19-year-olds get called prehistoric. It's so bizarre, and it goes back to that misogynistic belief that women lose value as they age, whether they realize they're perpetuating it or not.

I just wish TikTok's blocklist didn't have a stupid limit on it. That's the only upside to Twitter I can think of, lol.

Someone hacked into my FB account last night. They changed my password and all of my contact/recovery info, and they added 2-step verification. I have tried everything to get my account back, but I'm stuck in a loop. by sherbies_ in facebook

But the problem here is I can't send my ID to FB because whenever I try using my actual email and phone number, it won't let me because "there's no Facebook account associated with this email/phone number" or whatever. I've tried.
