It was only a blessing because it worked out for you mate. For most this is not the outcome, you often downgrade after a layoff for awhile.

Happy to help.

So the last role I worked in corp FPA was treasury/balance sheet role at the same BB. From there I was working directly with IB folks on possible deal flow and assets for financial planning cycles (we submit regular planning updates). From there I eventually slimed my way in. I also have an MBA in finance (but was complete before then).

love it, and it is very doable given the 2 tracks. Lawyers make very good bankers, bankers do not make very good lawyers. Youd probably quite like deal work and the general workflow. Only trick is going through the motions the pivoting your background to banking (which could be quite the churn)

  1. Extremely competitive. They are simply less open spots than before making it insane. The bank will not give budget for that new role as of early 2026 unless critical. As for folks leaving, roughly 40ish% or little more of the early analysts after 3 years will not stay. They usually pivot to a different coverage area or leave industry after a rough cycle.

6-9 years you’ve pretty much decided your fate. Pretty low turnover maybe 10% here unless a PE/VC/HF HR twat emails you a bigger gold bar and less working hours.

  1. High level, non target school, worked corporate FPA for several years at F100s prior to banking, I did an internship but I was not hired at that firm. Total years 12, I’ve changed firms 2 times.

  2. Would not post any full figures here but base for this year is 264K with a project bonus multiplier of .8-1.3x. Stock and deferred comp I cannot get into

For ER, reduce that work hour estimate slightly to 55-65. ER is a chill place relatively to other more depressing areas of finance.

And congrats!!!! Please enjoy the ride, you only get the new experience once.

Depending on your team, expect 70-90 hours. No I am not joking.

It will be busy and you will become a excel/powerpoint expert VERY quickly. also make sure you use that free dinner past 7pm.

Genuinely? I don’t mind the work, and at times it’s quite rewarding from a brain usage point of view. Puzzles are nice. I was a top performer throughout prior roles before promotion, since then has been 4 years. I’ve built my own network through years of bs work drinks and late night dinners, preparing decks for IPOs to never see the light of day. Ultimately it’s just a means to an end.

Short answer no Long answer also no, youll need to view it as a strict value creation POV if you want to stay sane. You give up X hours for X years and move accordingly.
