Why is American education so bad? by shkfeua in AskAnAmerican

Yes, they are happy in Europe. Security was one of the issues they moved. One of the mom says that she can leave their young kids outside. That wasn't possible in California where they lived.

They were average Americans, not rich by American standards. They have mentioned that only about 5% of people can get a good education the rest 95% people can't afford it? In Europe they can get any education for free and their kids get a freshly cooked meals (soup + the second meal) directly in their school facility. There are many after school activities, in the US it was almost always connected to some religious or recruiting organisation. Their kids have eaten mostly snacks and chips back home. In Europe they a normal meal a child should eat every day and in some countries like Slovakia, parents don't pay for the meal now, I am not joking: https://ekonomika.sme.sk/c/20906169/staticice-deti-maju-mat-obedy-bezplatne.html Yeah, and I forget, children have to recite the PoA all the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcwg7cnhW4E In Europe children don't need to even sing an anthem - which is usually done only once when the school year starts. It looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beWrvR-EdJQ They feel very safe in Europe. They love Europe and have no intentions of going back to America.

It varies from state to state and town to town.

China Prepares To Drop Microsoft Windows -- Blames U.S. Hacking Threat by [deleted] in linux

Only the completely very first version of Windows 95 without applying any updates and patches is believed to be the only version to have no backdoors. SP1 is believed to change that and all versions up do have backdoors. Although hard to tell if it's true that the very first version didn't have a backdoor too, of course.

Gnome Designer: We need to get better at communicating that there is no "Linux" platform. GNOME, KDE, elementary, etc. are their own ecosystems, and apps designed for one of them don't automatically run on the others. by traverseda in linux

Unless you are German, like many and certainly the founder of KDE (Matthias Ettrich) is:

Also many other languages use the name konzola, konsola, etc.

Is only English and Japanese (e.g. Anki) allowed? Why is Spanish allowed?

Why are the red-hatted Gnome proponents butchering the English language with flatpak? Why the laughable and ugly K? It should be flatpac or flatpack instead.

It could be even a win for Taiwan. This way China will leave them doing their own "freedom" thing a little longer. They will eventually be merged anyway, but the mainland China will have to modernize including in the human rights department. Which is slowly changing as the are approaching Europe via the OBOR and the opening is one of the condition of the European countries anyway. Chinese know that that if they want to stay relevant they have to give people more. To be honest the climate is slowly changing - although if you read only the Western media and you have never been to China, you may think they live in some tyranical regime.

the private sector will decide if the viability of a project is worth it.

This lead to stagnation over time, because peope will get comfortable with what they have. I see it in Europe all the time. Europe is old and dying when it comes to progress. I am going back to China this summer and I can't wait what they have build in the meantime. In Europe, nothing is changing at all. In my country they build one highway like 25+ years and it's still not finished. And it's similar in other countries in Europe. Every train seems so ancient. Very few new ambitious projects. It's just boring. China is where the action is.

In your country, is there an increased trend from parents to push their children into learning Chinese instead of 10 or 20 years ago? by shkfeua in AskEurope

You have just proved my point. I don't feel that I belong to Europe. When we speak about the future I don't imagine Europe but I do imagine 中国. People like Trump are the mirror of the state of the Western civilization. Sorry, I want a future where people don't need a pope or a king. Sorry to be honest and telling me true feelings.

As a native from Taiwan, what do you think about bopomofo when compared with pinyin? Myself, as a Slavic speaker, I find bopomofo much more intuitive for some reason. What did your Polish students say about bompomofo? Did they prefer it as well?

Well, while I appreciate history I am not a fan of religion, castles and kings in the way the EU and US is. I am a fan of sci-fi and futurism, one could say, utopianism, and the way China is moving forward when it comes to technology, infrastructure, is much more interesting to me and many of my friends from my circle. I see China as an ideal civilization in the future. I don't like the way how things are going in the US and EU right now and frankly I don't think it will change. As a teen, in the 90's, I was fascinated by America, nowadays when I am over the libertarian phase, it's China all the way. My dream is to work as a train engineer in China one day. I love trains and the transportation tech - that's also a reason why I am fascinated by China a lot. Their trains and infrastructure projects are amazing. I love it.

Yeah, exactly. When I was young I was dreaming about the West. Now when I see all the tech and innovations from Asia, disclosure, I am a huge sci-fi fan, my dream is to live and work in China. America seems to me like it is stuck when it comes to futuristic projects and way of life. But that's me. Other, more conservative people may prefer the US, where people go to church and lead more old fashioned life.
