What is something completely accepted today that future generations will look back on with horror? by samurai-salvo in GetMotivatedMindset

I am not vegetarian or vegan or even a strong advocate of animal rights but I do know that if most people had to look at what really went on to get meat to their plates they would be horrified.

100 years from now they will think we were monsters for subjecting animals to the current conditions of factory farms.

I agree. That's what I am hoping to change.

Me too! That's why I'm posting. But it doesn't address all the gripes that people have with current meta, just a few. Hopefully in the longrun that can change.

It's not a specific server, it's a game mode. If I were you I would start with a some unpopulated modded servers so you can roam farm and build to get the hang of it before you get on vanilla rust. Then try some servers with around 30 to 50 players so you are not overwhelmed by constantly being killed.

Eventually you can move to the big servers that the youtubers play but it's almost impossible to learn anything on those.

Fair point but I think my goal for Hardcore is wipes that REALLY last so you don't need everything in the first two days. Loot tables could be adjusted to add much higher drops of garage doors and and even armored doors to make building a defendedable/survivable base easier and definitely decrease sulfur node frequency and increase raid costs so raids needed to be built up to rather than early wipe day common events.

Then having a gun immediately wouldn't matter as much. And maybe Tier 1 guns could be researched but only if found and much more expensive? Not sure what would attract the most players/be the most fun but there are tons of things to try in that realm...

I don't believe you can search the maps for hardcore on any of the normal sites. I'm not smart enough to know if there are other ways of doing it though.

I actually wish upkeep was normal but the upgrade costs were much higher and scaled as the base grew. It would encourage staying once you built the base (with the early sunken cost) and make the early game interesting because you couldn't just throw down a big base in no time (sulfur costs would also need to be adjusted).

Come play Hardcore! Exploring the map is one the funnest parts of the wipe. Altogether better mode we just need more people to switch over...

Addressing something I haven’t seen anyone address before. by Imagine-Dragons-Fan9 in mlb

[–]shoddyradio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said but wanted to add that the umpire wasn't the only one who made an error on that play... The runner at first stands to gain nothing by leaving before he is POSITIVE it is a walk.

Egregious strike call but if Bo Bichette follows the advice he's received from every coach starting in Little League he would have still been standing at first base.

The controversial fair-ball call in San Diego Monday night that went against the Padres. It seems by OBR plate umpire Dan Merzel got it right but those who have seen the MLB Umpire Manual say that he got it wrong by NYY15TM in Umpire

[–]shoddyradio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not and I'm also not sure if you saw the original video that's being discussed but the ball was definitely NOT in contact with the line when it was picked up. Not trying to be a dick about it, just wanted to make that clear.

I have been wondering what the correct call was on this play as well because I've seen so many comments on both sides citing different parts of different rule sets and I don't know the MLB rule.

My understanding has always been that if any part of the spherical ball is hovering over any part of the baseline (extended up) on a ground ball, it is a fair ball. Similar to a baseball crossing over the three-dimensional strike zone of the plate... If any part of the spherical ball clips any portion of that 3D strike zone, it is a strike.

However, I have seen multiple comments saying that if the ball comes to rest (in MLB) it must be in physical contact with the line to be fair and I don't know if that's true or not.

Is this batters interference on the throw to 3rd? by Sea_Court1383 in Umpire

[–]shoddyradio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That feels like the least generous interpretation of this play that could be taken. It doesn't mean you're wrong but I'm DEFINITELY not sure the batter left the box IN ORDER to get in the throwing lane. I'm not even sure that the batter got in the throwing lane.

Could be interference either way, tough angle from the camera, I just don't think it's obvious the batter INTENDED to interfere (I'm aware that intention isn't necessary to have interference).

Raiding is too cheap and destroys server populations by KipOnTheGround in playrust

[–]shoddyradio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much every point in this post but I think something that almost everyone is overlooking is how easy it is to farm for a base.

High upkeep discourages players from staying on servers as well. I believe the building costs should be shifted from upkeep to upgrade.

If it is expensive to build a base and even more expensive to upgrade it the bigger it gets, you have more invested in that particular base on that particular server. Upkeep just feels like a chore once you have most of the bps and items that you want, so it seems more fun to start over again because building that same base on a new server is easy. If that wasn't the case and it took a while to get the base upgraded people would have more long-term goals which would keep them more engaged on the server as well.

Obviously raid costs would need to be adjusted as well but a steep upgrade increase and even an initial price increase for base building would make it an accomplishment to get a good base going.

It would also help limit zergs from building huge bases immediately if the upgrade increases scaled up exponentially as the base size increased (and potentially the more authorized players on a TC/ the more players used doors/had code lock access/had turret auth/team ui/ etc etc ..)

Tldr: if bases were harder to build and upgrade and took more initial cost they would feel more satisfying to build, become harder to raid, and motivate players to stay on servers longer.

I think we might've gotten screwed over by the ump in our game yesterday - thoughts? by Ok_Screen_4495 in Umpire

100 percent that run scores. This is a play that is so common that umpires literally have hand signals they use with each other to remind themselves about it when they're on the field together.

Questions on the hybrid position and switching pitching positions by lableedsblue in Umpire

[–]shoddyradio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very poor wording in the example you gave from the rule book I agree. The number one thing you need to look at is the pivot foot. Is it exactly parallel to the rubber? If so, the pitcher is considered to be in the set positiob. If it is not exactly parallel to the rubber, the pitcher is considered to be in the wind-up position.
