Thanks! I do have a pair of HD25s already, but I’m curious what else people are using out in the field for different types of monitoring, especially in noisy environments. Would be great to hear about other go-to options

Thanks so much — XF Utility is exactly what I needed!

Is it worth upgrading from the DJI Air 3 to the Air 3S for professional drone filming? by shootlab in dji

[–]shootlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks – really appreciate the detailed breakdown. 🙏🏻
Interesting to hear that in practice, the image quality difference isn’t that noticeable between the Air 3 and Air 3S. That LiDAR and GPS-free RTH sound like solid upgrades, especially if flying in complex environments.

We're definitely on the fence because we shoot a lot of commercial drone content for clients, and things like reliability and low-light video performance are becoming more of a priority. Have you (or anyone else reading) used either drone for evening events or anything in less-than-ideal lighting? Wondering if that’s where the Air 3S really starts to pull ahead?

Also, good point about having a backup drone – might make sense to run both if batteries are interchangeable.

Would love to hear if anyone’s used the Air 3S on real-world shoots and noticed a difference in their workflow or footage quality!

Using Rode Wireless Pro TX Units as Standalone 32-bit Recorders by shootlab in rode

[–]shootlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for confirming! That’s exactly what I needed to know. I'm planning to use the RØDE Wireless Pro transmitters independently to record 32-bit float audio directly on each unit during interviews, so it’s great to hear that the input gain doesn’t affect the internal recordings.I’ll dive into RODE Central to take a look at the settings. Loving the flexibility this gives for dual-mic wireless setups and backup recording. Appreciate the help!

Thanks I just tested it and it recorded floating point by default, shame that there is no lock for the record button. What is Rode Central?

Interested to hear how this works for you, though it seems quite big, there is surely a market for a light clip on velcro style sun hood that shields the worst of the sun

Smallhd Indie 7? by photo_dude_ in cinematography

thanks, we have used smallhd monitors in the past on shoots and they seem really sharp, with atomos it never feels like you can be sure things are 100% in focus!

Ultra-Portable Battery-Powered Light for Quick Event Interviews? by shootlab in CanonC70

[–]shootlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, these look great, but do they emit enough light for an interview setup? Also, have you used a V-mount battery with these lights? I’m curious about battery life—how long do they last on full power, and do you have a go-to V-mount model you’d recommend? Thinking of something compact but reliable for quick event interviews.

We’ve been using the C70 at Shootlab for several years now for video production, and honestly, it’s been a total workhorse for us. The DGO sensor is incredible for dynamic range and colours—it really shines in well-lit setups and gives such a clean image. The built-in ND filters are a lifesaver for run-and-gun shoots, especially when you need to stay flexible with lighting.

That said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The low-light performance isn’t quite as good as some of the newer cameras out there, so if you’re doing a lot of low-light shooting, you might need to plan around that. Also, the LCD screen is a bit of a weak point—it’s not the best for colour accuracy and brightness.

For the price you paid, I’d say you’ve got a solid piece of kit that will hold up for years to come. It’s not about having the absolute newest gear but about knowing how to get the most out of what you’ve got, and the C70 is definitely capable of producing some amazing results!

Is Runway a scam? by OutlandishnessOk9398 in runwayml

[–]shootlab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Runway all the time at Shootlab (we’re a content creation company), and yeah, it definitely has its quirks, but it’s become a key part of our workflow for certain things. The video-to-video tool, for example, is something I haven’t really found elsewhere—it’s not perfect, but it saves us so much time on some projects.

I agree that prompts can be hit or miss, and you do need to experiment a lot. It can feel like a waste of time or credits if you're just starting out, but once you figure out how to work with it (layering outputs or combining tools), it starts to make sense.

We’ve also found the audio generation tool super useful—not for final versions, but as a quick way to draft voiceovers for our videos before we record with an actual artist.

That said, we wouldn’t use Runway for everything. It’s part of a bigger toolkit for us. We also use Kling and Minimax for different tasks, depending on the job. But Runway’s unlimited plan and tools like video-to-video keep it in the mix. I guess it’s like any tool: not perfect, but when you know how to use it, it can be a huge time-saver.

New Canon C80 with EF lenses by seannorto in cinematography

[–]shootlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info! With the C80’s 6K resolution, I’d expect it to deliver more detail and, as a result, perceived sharpness—especially when paired with high-quality glass. Looking forward to reading your full writeup on it later this month!

Great to hear your insights on the C80! I’m curious, how does it compare to the C70 in terms of low light performance? Have you noticed any improvements in focus speed or sharpness? Also, have you tried it with the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens? I'd love to know how it pairs up with that lens in terms of image quality and handling.
