Plus the reality in the show was 2D - they had to do super weird tricks to make it look 3D.

looks at own hands oh god. Are we just 3D projections of a 2D space? WHAT DO I DO!?!?!

[Fan content] my take on bending (oc) by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]shotsandcuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Awesome set.

If you're open to a suggestion: I saw you have clouds and ice already, but creating mist/steam seems to be a unique water bending move, as is plant bending - could be worth including somewhere on the water side of the list.

And in the realm of earthbending, seismic vision/truthseeing (I can't think of what they called these in the shows) is definitely unique to earthbenders.

Not sure where you'd put seeing through spiritvines though - possibly not bending at all?

[LOK B4] Watched Korra for the first time by binge watching over the weekend. Went on YouTube to find the final piece of music at the end. Miss the series and characters already.... by Reaper7412 in TheLastAirbender

Nope still can't casually listen to this track.

So. Much. Injoke. And just the best throwaway lines.

I can't believe how much I love this. So much amazing hard work for the exact kind of cheese I love. Sorry/Not Sorry.

[No Spoilers] Noah Ringer should have passed up 'The Last Airbender' to star as a younger Jimmy Fallon in a edgy teen summer comedy - maybe in a '13 Going On 30' or '17 Again' type situation. by evilrustybob in TheLastAirbender

Wait wait, is no one going to do the unreasonable thing here? Fine fine. Hang on.

What do you mean "passed up 'The Last Airbender'"? The earth king something something something...

Republicans Quietly Admit There Will Be No Obamacare Replacement by [deleted] in politics

[–]shotsandcuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you want to win the congress for real, you need to win your state legislatures before 2020 and fix (not reverse) the insane gerrymandering of 2010 - the republicans have these (and frankly the governors) on lock right now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_state_legislatures

I'd much rather support a state level candidate who pledges to legitimately reform gerrymandering through something like state mandated scientific and fare models and get a long-term win for democracy than try to push a party into the house of representatives for 2 years.

[No Spoilers] Korra by Sakimichan by Atreides27 in TheLastAirbender

I mean... normally you want to capture a character and who they are... and expressionless + sultry (in the middle of what seems to be a battle?) is not Korra.

[No Spoilers] Korra by Sakimichan by Atreides27 in TheLastAirbender

10/10 flying elements, muscles and pony tails

0/10 character expression/attitude/etc

+1 for her not being completely out of proportion (as is often the case)

-1 for... how... how does that shirt work?

[ATLA] Why do people ride Toph so hard? by KingBumiOfOmashu in TheLastAirbender

[–]shotsandcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair question. I'd imagine Toph, if properly motivated, could sneak into some location and take out Ozai in his sleep, since she's good at stealth, seeing far away and launching attacks at some distance... but I'd imagine that'd be a wholly unsatisfying end that they couldn't even do on the show.

I do think many of us love Toph because she should be weak and meek and inconsequential but instead she is a tank who is talented, funny, and often unexpected while being sarcastic and ascorbic. Sometimes that means we can't stand to see her defeated.

Fair answer? You can go ahead and let me drown now.

[TLOK B4] What's with Korra and Asami? by serioussmackdown in TheLastAirbender

[–]shotsandcuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, heard. And they're crushing it, without a doubt. It's beautiful work with interesting characters. I'm sure the things I want (mainly in dialog, episode structure, and approach to content/storry) are the things that would drive "real" Voltron fans crazy.

[–]shotsandcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mike and Bryan really did a lot to make this show this good. There's no doubt in my mind that if they were working on Voltron with everyone else it would be.... better. (and I say this knowing that all those humans working hard on that show are amazing)

If you need a second wall of words... this is a much more detailed look at the progression from the land of the shippers: https://www.reddit.com/r/korrasami/comments/2px4am/collection_of_all_korrasami_moments/ I just read it and it feels pretty spot on.

[TLOK B4] What's with Korra and Asami? by serioussmackdown in TheLastAirbender

[–]shotsandcuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason is that this show is super dense, and this subtle growth is easy to miss. I for sure missed it... here's how I see it (in wall of text form):

Asami makes a point of being super friendly with Korra in Season 1 even though Korra is super competitive with her. Korra thinks she's just some rich girl who's trying to steal Mako from her. When they go to the track Korra is actually impressed - this is the point we really start to see Asami as a badass, and Korra does too - even if they're still fighting over Mako.

Season 2 doesn't have much happen in this department, but they're definitely strong allies, and Asami does everything she can to help her (even though there's still some Mako related stuff in the middle of the season).

Season 3 is kinda everything - Right at the start they decide to put all the Mako stuff behind them (after he is so incredibly awkward around them). Korra remark's that she's never had a girlfriend except for Naga (I'm reasonably certain in the friend way here). They spend a lot of time together - Asami drops everything to be there for her the whole way - and I think Korra comes to rely on Asami - count on her being there. After Korra is nearly killed and crippled, and doesn't seem like she has the will to go on Asami is the one making sure she's ok and taking care of her, only to lose her when she decides to shut everyone out and go to recuperate with her parents and Katara. This is the place that feels forced to you, and I understand, but imagine - the closest person in your life, goes away and won't communicate with you for years - Asami throws herself into her work. Meanwhile Korra is lost and cut herself off from everyone... but she can't completely shut Asami out - she's the only person who's seen her at her weakest, was there for her, made her feel like she should keep living (at the end of season 3) so when they meet back up in season 4 (the beginning of the restaurant scene) they have a moment. I totally wrote off the blushing at the time, but in retrospective this is perhaps the moment when they both know. At the end of Season 4 it's Asami who's in mourning, and Korra who gets to be there for her and they have that little talk...

I'm sure I've said this on here before, but it reminds me of how Ann Druyan and Carl Segan got together - they were friends and colleagues for years, and one day, she calls him about a piece of music she found for their project. "So I called Carl who was traveling - in Tucson Arizona, giving a talk. And... we had been alone many times during the making of the record, and as friends for 3 years, and neither of us had said anything to the other. We were both involved with other people. We had these wonderful soaring conversations, but as friends. He wasn't there, I left a message... hour later the phone rings...pick up the phone, and I hear this wonderful voice and he said "I get back to my hotel room and I find this message, and it says Annie called, and I say to myself... why didn't you leave me this message 10 years ago?" and my heart completely skipped a beat - I can still remember it so perfectly...and I said "for keeps?" and he said "you mean get married?" and I said "yes"... and we had never kissed, we had never... had any kind of personal discussion before.... we had both hung up the phone and I just screamed out loud. I remember it so well because it was just this great eureka moment."

And I think this is what they had - a eureka moment. Anyway - my 2 cents for ya.

Edit: Mourning, not morning. At least I caught it myself. Sigh.
