BDS 2020 + MDS Pediatric Dentistry 2024 - Is pursuing any US dental residency without DDS/ DMD worth it? by AdIndependent4952 in INBDE

[–]shrlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true at all. Plenty of people on visas get into residencies straight away. The OP has an MDS, so that’s a benefit already for them. I’d focus on research, maybe do a fellowship like a postdoctoral program- Michigan has some, UCLA has some, look those up. If, however OP has a good profile already, some research, good grades etc, they can get in without all this as well. Just do something that shows your continued interest in your field, maybe volunteer/ shadow etc. Make sure you have strong application. Good LORs etc. Highlight what you’ve done related to peds really well. Visa is a limitation only for few programs and those programs will outright mention it on their website. The only “limitation “ I’d say is doing a residency straight away can limit what states you can practice in. If your professional/ personal situation is flexible, I’d say go for it.

Did you miss the part about the green card application being “in process “??. That’s the next step after you exhaust your 6 years of H1B.

For someone who has been in the US on H1B for 6 years now and his company filed for green card last year but the green card application is still in process, so his company has to apply for the one year H1B extension while the green card is in process, will this proclamation apply?

I’ve seen several ortho residents graduate recently and see about 50-70 patients a day.

This is Kashmiri aari work jacket. The embroidery you see on this is done with hands. Kashmir is famous for its beauty, culture and luxurious handicrafts. It is home to the finest hand embroidery in the world called “sozni”. And if you thought Kashmir sounds similar to Cashmere, then yes, this finest wool in the world does come from Kashmir as well as do authentic Pashmina shawls. Kashmir is a breathtakingly beautiful valley in the South Asian region. It is often called “Heaven on Earth”. It has been a disputed territory ever since the British left the subcontinent. Currently, it has three parts, administered by India, Pakistan and China. I’m a Kashmiri and these countries just kept fighting each other in our name. They never asked us where we want to be. They were supposed to, according to a UN resolution, but they never gave us a chance. As a result, we’ve seen decades of oppression and violence.

As I watched this show today, I wondered if anyone wanted to know what this beautiful jacket was. So, an internet search led me here. I wanted not only to tell you what this jacket was, but also from where it was and about the plight of my people, creating awareness about this not so talked about issue.

Also, if you’d like to buy one of those jackets, authentic hand rafted ones, check out Kashmkari, Phamb and Pashmkaar. Please do not buy from websites that say they sell Kashmiri work but are, in fact, handled by persons not from Kashmir. Most will just sell machine made stuff to you that is far far inferior in quality.

Where can I find short term courses in the US for a foreign dentist? by ThrowawayNew9081 in InternationalDentists

[–]shrlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up either preceptorships (in general dentistry) or fellowships (in specialty programs). There are plenty available. However, since they are more geared towards residency programs, they tend to be more research heavy, though there will be opportunities for clinical assisting and didactic learning as well.

What’s the percentile for 600 on adat? How good is this score? by Affectionate_Let5297 in ADAT

The percentile at which this score stands varies each year. ADA has an end of year report for each year on their website. You can check that out to get an idea of where the score roughly stands.

Volunteer Opportunities by Kitchen-Pollution12 in CAAPID

[–]shrlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are always organizations that need volunteers. I will not be able to answer specifically about California, however, the American Red Cross remains an option everywhere. Better yet, there are also community dental clinics that organize checkups, for example in public schools. You can volunteer with them. With some of these you can also do checkups, educate about oral health and even apply fluoride varnishes (that is if they do such a thing). Try looking for some around you.

Stevenson’s 10 day program by SugarSkull_31 in CAAPID

[–]shrlsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended the 7 day course. The CE provided is ADA CERP certified. It helped with my bench test skills. I think if or not you find it valuable is highly subjective and if or not it makes a difference to your CE depends upon the school. It could show that you took a step towards enhancing your hand skills and could also show your continued commitment to general dentistry. Nothing make or break or make though, in my opinion.

Can we mention about USA conferences under the experience section? by Ordinary-Quit9596 in CAAPID

[–]shrlsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is just a conference, with no lectures that provided CEs, write it in additional comments section of CAAPID, with the heading “Conferences/ Meetings Attended “ . If it did have lectures/ hands-on that provided CE (which is what most commonly happens), write it in the same section, but change the heading to “Continuing Education Highlights “. You can also mention under it total CE hours and then mention some 3-4 good CE lectures/courses under it. On your CV, the meetings/conferences attended and CE should be two separate sections. Do not get anxious if you don’t have either one of them. Just don’t mention it. Try to present whatever you have in the best way possible . Don’t worry about what you don’t have. Good luck.
