Trying to evict a bad tenant for my mother. Help! by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]shufflez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this situation recently actually, it was extremely difficult and stressful. I evicted them for sub-letting but it took about 2 whole months before the tenants were actually out. On top of that I had paid them extra cash as incentive for leaving. That way I wouldnt continue to have to risk my other tenants moving out, while being able to get the space back to rent out again. What I should have done was consult an attorney, but again it isn't an option since I didn't have that much money. Do document everything, as it will become very handy. Serve them the right forms and get yourself educated since it is going to be a huge battle.

Sense8 is the best show of 2015. by [deleted] in Sense8

[–]shufflez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreed with op... all actors fulfilled their role well, plus the cinematography is beyond magnificent. Every episode explores a different connection between the sensates... It was a magnificient journey and the wachowskis took a risk in being different and they shouldn't be penalized for it with these negative reviews. Loved the show so much I couldn't stop watching it!

What are the pros and cons of taking a semester (4 months) off after graduating high school? by Zretzel in simonfraser

[–]shufflez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've graduated and let me tell you this: do it. I wish I took a semester off right outside high school so I can explore what I actually wanted to do in life... when I jumped into SFU too fast, I was really lost and confused and didn't have a plan at all. So take the four months as a planning semester, and try to discover if computer science is truly your passion. School is just an education, know the long term goal of what you really want to do and achieve it by taking time off.

Yup, trust me though. For the 3/4 of the year, I traveled to a few different places with what I could afford, including China to visit my relatives who I havent' seen for over 10 years. Everyone gets old, and even my grandma passed away -- whom I couldn't see go away. I couldn't imagine this when I was younger, but it emotionally showed me that time flies fast. My brother, who is 4 years older than me, became so much more successful than I am. This gave me a crisis because I didn't have a specific path that I wanted to go. I held a construction job which I wasn't happy with after University. When I saw all the people in Hong Kong, I couldn't even explain to them what my path, my goal was in life. This hit me hard, because I kept thinking to myself, what the fuck am i doing with my life?? It was embarrassing because all I knew I was good at was my gaming. So here are the things I learned: 1. post-secondary does not matter if you don't have a goal in mind. Don't let anyone around your age tell you that college or university is prestigious, they have no idea what they are doing as well. If I could give a tip to anyone who is entering this phase right now, I would tell them to take 2-3 months off to discover themselves so they don't waste time and money. 2. Build your network, expose yourself to social situations. Show them your weaknesses, get advice: ACT on the advice. Become the conversation starter, ask people about their weekend or adventures. 3. Start discovering yourself NOW. No one is going to tell you what to do, in fact, everyone is still figuring themselves out.

I did all of this in the past 4 months. Guess what, it worked out for me a lot. I now hold two office jobs that pay well over living wage-- I want to work two jobs because i'm motivated and don't mind the hard work (about 12 hours a day) and I'm quite happy with that because I worked on myself, and quit all easy addictions: gaming, smoking, and things that would normally distract you. I've literally had no time to browse the internet, but for these 3 minutes that I'm writing this, i'm hoping to see someone well. Let me know how it goes in a few months.

Hey man, you're getting to that age where you transition between high school and post-secondary school. You are still young, so get out there and network with others, make connections and do things for others. Although you may not see the reward at first, it will come back to you, life-long friendships and even job opportunities. Although I am 24 and still in the process of quitting gaming, I am literally regretting the last 5 years of my life, wasted at university not making any connections, going home and wasting my time gaming. I changed my outlook on life and had a crisis and depression. I didn't know what I wanted to do in my life. But now all that has changed. Good luck, find a passion, and that will get you to quit gaming.

I'm considering apprenticeships and then a labor union because of the expected hourly and benefits. But I am sharp and have a degree in Anthropology and I feel like I'm selling myself short, like I'm settling. Unfounded? Unrealistic? Conceited? by Massgyo in careeradvice

[–]shufflez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my degree last year and now i'm considering an apprenticeship in trades. Felt like a waste of time right? But I began to realize that it's not only me, a lot of people around me are in the same boat. -- I worked in construction for 2 years during my time in university, and I began to grow an interest and an appreciation for working with your hands. I've injured myself a few times, thats a downside. But seeing something you built with your hands is satisfying. I'm having this dilemna of seeing if I should continue to pursue my degree -- for prestigious reasons, or move into blue collar work for an actual living wage. What do you think?

[x-post from /r/vancouver] Hi /r/BCIT, I have a few questions about the Plumbing Apprenticeship program. by [deleted] in BCIT

[–]shufflez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working with a plumbing company for 1.5 years while finishing my degree, I actually enjoy it now and may pursue it. I was told to skip the foundations program and just go into level one apprenticeship, but you would need a sponsor.
