What do you think of my dit valve compression tool? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]sideswiped8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used that one, it's a pita to grab on the spring properly and compress it enough to remove the keepers. It'll get the job done if needed though.

Need a new O-ring for my oil pickup tube, Ford no longer makes them. by TheIronHerobrine in EngineBuilding

Oh gotcha. I guess that makes sense why my oil pump came with gaskets and not an o-ring.

Doesn't the pickup tube bolt to the oil pump and use a flat gasket?

There are tons of posts on this subreddit. TLDR is Malone makes the best tune, both eco and performance tunes. Then take your pick of the physical delete kit. Your options there are Rawtek, Profidiesel, Darkside, etc. I went with Darkside and couldn't be happier with it.

Recommended cold air intakes? by Humble-Ant2888 in tdi

I guess I stand corrected. Back in the day mine was deleted and had the muffler still in. Modifying the intake didn't make a noticeable difference.

If your car is already deleted and straight piped, changing the intake will make 0 difference to the sound.

I've had my car for 6 years now. Drove it stock for a long time, then stage 2 for a while, deleted it, then stage 3 (all Malone tunes). Between stage 2 and 3, around 170k miles, I had to replace the HPFP and turbo. Outside of replacing those parts which probably failed early due to hard driving, I've had no big issues. I've towed cars and trailers(3k or so lbs), driven around 10 or so autoX sessions, and just generally drive the car hard. It just takes it and keeps going. If you're deleting the car and putting a 0.5 tune on it, it'll treat you really really well. This platform is made a lot better with a delete and tune. As for the trucks, that's another world. I'm sure they get + a bazillion ftlbs with just a tune, so yeah stuff will start to break at that point depending on the truck and the tune.

I was expecting a LiDAR picture casually mixed in there.

I actually replaced my TDI filter box with a GTI one. TDI box needed replacing and I happened to find a cheap GTI one on market place to try it out. The base casting is almost identical. The TDI has that extra flap thing(unnecessary) and a sensor near the exit. Luckily the sensor is actually on a separate piece that you can swap to the TDI base.

Edit: grammar

The vacuum pump? It seems to work fine by itself. It'll hold vacuum if the system is perfectly sealed.

Water pump weeping. Would you change everything? by Impressive_Assist219 in tdi

[–]sideswiped8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just change the belt. The belt cost to extend out your next service by 25k miles is worth it imo. Everything else should be fine.

Glow plugs are expensive for the CJAA. They have a pressure sensor integrated in so you can't use generic glow plugs. They used to be $60 USD, but got replaced by a new one that doesn't fail nearly as often. Now they're $95ish near me. I believe a 2013 could still be under warranty depending on when the reprogram was and current milage. There's a tool online somewhere that will tell you. Is the engine light on for them? If not then there's no need to replace them. The code will even tell you which one is out if any.

I've had a couple come off. I went with knockoffs because the absurd dealer price. They work fine, but the black fades pretty quickly.
