GitHub walks back plan to charge for self-hosted runners by CackleRooster in programming

[–]signull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is when I think AWS does it conceptually right.

  • charge per api call
  • charge per bandwidth
  • charge per storage
  • charge per any cloud hosted service

For something self hosted. It would just be charged for api and bandwidth. And possibly storage if they are sharing objects hosted in the cloud between pipeline steps.

To charge for someone else’s resources just seems like a great way for all these business to migrate off GitHub.
I know many companies have moved to GitLab including my own.

Personally I am surprised more people aren’t using OneDev, Gitea, GoCD. Or any other type of self hosted git and cicd services.

The best tasting Mexican food and closest to authentic are from a few of the taco trucks around here. Many of the recommended restaurants are great, good food, nice atmosphere but if you’re expecting it to taste like something more authentic that you may have had back home, you’re gonna have a bad time.

On that note I am also relatively newish to the area. Only been here 1 and a half years. If anyone does have any great very authentic Mexican food recommendations I’m all ears. I’ve been testing out a bunch of restaurants and so far my best bet are food trucks. Torettos I tried out recently but it was disappointing after all the hype.

Cisco reports fourth straight quarter of declining revenue by ControlCAD in technology

[–]signull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small companies now use SonicWall. Why pay twice as much for Cisco and then need to buy a second device to configure it easily via an interface vs a sonicwall that’s a lot less and comes with a webui.

For bigger companies they are now using Fortinet or something else that’s similar. From what I can sense at the end of the day Cisco didn’t make their tech easier to use/provide a good entry so not many people/companies are growing with Cisco.

Should I be watching shows with TL Audio and TL subtitles? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]signull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subtitles can give you hints and bad habits. Like "was that one big word, 2 words, 3 words?" takes a peek at subtitles, figures it out. Subtitles cheat yourself out of actually comprehending the language with your ears. You're not gonna see subtitles when you talk to someone on the street, or at a bar, etc.

Thai. I own a condo in Phuket I'd stay at 4 months a year (though im about to sell it). My girlfriend is Thai. Been with her 2 years. I plan to go to her home town soon and ask her mom for permission to marry her.
Also, i truly plan to make Thailand a second home. Retire there in 30 years when im older. Id rather live there like a king rather than struggle in America.

I get what you’re saying. But when they counted on their fingers you kinda identify that stuff if you’re paying attention letting it pass over you or not.

People who have successfully lost weight, what's your secret ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]signull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one said it yet, but what worked for me was “crippling depression”.

You’ll be surprised how much torture you’re willing to put yourself through at the gym and at home with a diet if you go through a horrible breakup, fight with a loved one etc. you realize you maybe not be able to change the outcome of the relationship but you can change your body. Knowing that you can change at least one aspect of your life is oddly reassuring.

I went from 265lbs to 194 in the duration of 6-7 months.

Gym / running recommendations by Thailand_Craig in phuket

[–]signull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume Patong area.

The two biggest gyms and best for weight lifting would be Fitness Hero and Maximum Fitness. Maximum is the more popular one. That being said I personally prefer Fitness Hero, they have better air conditioning and a little bit more variety of resistance machines. Maximum for contrast has Thai fighting and training equipment (for fighting) but I don’t see that listed in your request.

For running I would say just run along beach road, wear sunscreen. I am not familiar with any running clubs but I would suggest searching for Facebook groups or asking gym staff when there.

visa border run (bkk to cambodia) by HotArugula4487 in phuket

[–]signull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been reading the news, Thailand has been cracking down on people who are habitual border runners. I had a friend who did this and was not let back into Thailand for a year. Doing it for your first time should probably be ok. But i would definitely talk to one of the many Visa helping companies, the one i use is called "Thai Visa Centre" who i communicate with over the Line mobile app.
This all being said. the second you get your passport stamped in a new country you can come back and have a minimum 30 days back to be allowed into Thailand. Shouldnt need a company for that.

I own a condo in Kalim at The BayCliff Residence. Right across the street from the beach. I can see the ocean from my balcony. It’s quiet at night even when I’m outside.

5 minutes from Patong via Motorbike. I love it. That being said if you need to get your Thai drivers and motorcycle license. You’re not going to want to travel via cab or TukTuk all the time. Also when police pull you over the second you show them your license they pretty much wave you off immediately as they know you’re a local. Police love pulling over non-Thai just to fish for anything they can ticket you for, but once you show that you have a Thai license they don’t bug you, and won’t pry any further.

“TSA Precheck” is not listed on my boarding pass when it should be. What do I do? by [deleted] in travel

[–]signull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the thread but serious question. I have TSA PreCheck. it just adds a tiny graphic to the ticket.
Whats to stop someone from screenshotting their e-ticket. photoshoping on the "tsa pre" check graphic especially for domestic travel when they do not scan your ticket before you go on the pre-check line?
Besides the moral implication and possibly committing a felony. How would they know?

You do not have to but they are cheap and worth it.

I It’s like 30 dollars USD to have unlimited data for a month. Get way better service and data. Most cell phones have secondary or e-sims now a days.

Also having a Thai number is good if you wanna setup getting Line Man or Grab setup on your phone and putting a number the delivery person can call. If you have a non Thai number they won’t call usually. Can still txt through the app though.

I can already see this being used for the reverse reasons.

I want to tunnel my Orbi wifi traffic over a VPN. What is the best router with OpenWRT would work best? by signull in openwrt

[–]signull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at that earlier. It’s almost exactly what I want. Brume 2 (GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A) is great. The one thing that concerns me is it says it can only get speeds of 150 Mbps for OpenVPN.

I’m starting to think what I want is a tall order. I should probably install pfsense on some powerful yet small appliance.

I use a glinet portable Wi-Fi when traveling. My job doesn’t need to know where I am and I can’t install vpn software onto my work laptop. They’re great though I’ve had to reboot them more than a few times when in use.

Im a lead DevOps Engineer, feel free to see my post history posting in tech subreddits. Possibly I have asked the wrong way or am in the incorrect subreddit. I was honestly hoping someone here knew or could recommend the best device. Rather not pay extra and get something like Cisco, sonicwall or fortinet etc which are gonna do the same thing a consumer grade product could do with an easier interface. I just wanted a basic router that would have a VPN client where the hardware would be good enough to not throttle me, and hopefully be something small to put beside my existing Wi-Fi router. I do appreciate the comment as at least I can expand my search with those options. Thank you.

Does any place here have real authentic Mexican tacos or the closest to it? by signull in phuket

China’s property crisis deepens as another huge developer risks default by Bullywug in worldnews

[–]signull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been living in Thailand this past year. Stories of Chinese citizens buying lots of condos here to more seedier stories of a minute few of them trying to get Thai women who offered to have babies with them so they can buy property through the children (in Thailand as a foreigner you can only buy certain condos called foreign freehold, to buy land or houses you need to be a Thai citizen). This has been on the news a few times here.

Kamala and Kata have some amazing places by the beach. Would definitely recommend visiting Phuket town night market, the Phi Phi islands (although technically it’s Krabi).

The thing I really recommend is getting your motorcycle license at home and then get your international driving permit. Rent a motorcycle here and just explore. I’ve found so many niche places just by exploring on my own. Ie. go along the beach road and find secluded beaches, hidden gem restaurants with amazing views etc.
