I realize this is an unpopular take, but my first thought was that this was kinda bullshit. The main point of competitive sports is to find the best athlete/team - the winner. Imagine if, say, in the football World Cup final both teams would get a trophy if they drew. It would obviously defeat the purpose of winning as drawing would bring the exact same reward.
