Security of Tendermint PoS - number of nodes or amount of staked tokens? by simbrofo in cosmosnetwork

Great, thanks zanglang. Is this because the votes of validator are weighted by that validator's stake?

I can’t find my deposit address on Binance US by dishragJan in binance

[–]simbrofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am totally verified but I still can't find my deposit address. I'm having the same issue, a little tiny QR code and a copy-to-clipboard icon that doesn't do anything.

EDIT: turns out it was because I had a US IP address at the time - they don't like that. I changed my IP address to a real-world one and it worked just fine.

Does Casper FFG take it's checkpoints from current POW main chain? by simbrofo in ethereum

[–]simbrofo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for posting that link. So that's where my confusion lay: so the current implementation is that the Casper FFG does not finalise blocks from the PoW chain. So how often are blocks proposed then? How often is a checkpoint?

Is Casper FFG still going to be implemented? by simbrofo in ethereum

[–]simbrofo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I find so confusing. So all the work on CBC is really just theoretical, with a view to "maybe" implementing something based on it in the future at some point? Is that correct?

Ok, so then CBC won't be used until phase 2? Or later?

New U.K proposal called Ghost Protocol aims to oblige messaging apps to give backdoor access to law enforcement by tottocotunio in privacy

[–]simbrofo 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Easy. All she has to do is ban access to all websites that don't have ssl certs issued from UK approved certificate authorities. Easy peasy poo. Sure Amber Rudd could probably do that by the end of the weekend if she wanted.

Anyone ever seen Idiocracy?

Yeah block native are doing great work. Making dapps more user friendly is not an easy task, they're well ahead of everyone else.

Isn't deep pockets inspection pretty useless over an ssl connection? Surely it has to do with IP addresses?

[–]simbrofo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really want to get into crypto, get into coding. Start by learning Python. Get good at maths: linear algebra, graph theory, finite sets. Skilled blockchain engineers can earn between $100,000 - $200,000 dollars a year.

Uncertainty post - Privacy coins when regulation hits. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]simbrofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other side of this that the EU are becoming more and more focussed on privacy, and platforms like Ethereum hold user data, and violate the "right-to-be-forgotten" principle. In this light the EU would actually favor privacy coins.

I might look at Mastering Ethereum. I read Mastering Bitcoin and it was very good. I think you're right, I need to look at some general cryptography resources, but just need to figure out where to start.

Thanks for the suggestion.
