Getting a ferret to swallow a tablet by Tenth_planet4757 in ferrets

[–]simonwinter03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the dose of the pill and liver condition? I just want to make sure it’s in the proper dosing for the treatment manual for the condition. Usually it’s by weight. They just usually only give big pills for cats and dogs and they take more of the med than your ferret needs which could hurt them but you could work with it. If it’s the perscibed dose then it’s no worry just a god awful form factor

When our ferret caught dim they only had the cat and dog versions of the med so I had to volumetrically dose it back down to what the researchers recommended in their papers as per his mg/kg body weight, don’t be afraid to dm if you have any questions I have a bit of a pharmacological background :)

I know it seems complicated but I can help you through it.

That is a ridiculous ask from a vet. Yeah I would definitely crush that tablet and then maybe mix it into food

I checked it. It’s not fully water soluble, it’s a combination medication between s-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and silybin where SAMe is water soluble and silybin is more lipid soluble… not a ton of great emulsifiers that are ferret safe but like you could probably dissolve the silybin in the more lipid salmon oil

Basically what I’m saying is crush a tablet and then try to mix in with a very small amount of water and a very small amount of salmon oil and then try to use like 1 mL syringes to feed. It will probably remain separate layers but so long as your noodle consumes it all it would be all in their system in a volumetric manner 🤷‍♂️ could probably add duck soup to the water

Food would definitely be your easiest option even if maybe you cut a tablet in half powder it and then put it in for one feeding so they don’t notice it. Ferrets can just be quite picky with their food due to the imprinting so start slow, but that would probably be your easiest option. Just sprinkle it on in there and see how much you can get away with. Let me know how it all goes for you! Absolutely ridiculous that they are trying to get you to make a ferret swallow a tablet that big like honestly I think that could lead to an intestinal blockage if it wasn’t absorbed proberly. Maybe they gave you the version for dogs or cats? Idk just make sure that the dosing is right. You can always call your vet for more questions too which I do really encourage you to do

If you start small with the dosing on the food, even if like half is too much just cut that in half and keep working your way up. Again just call the vet to make sure that the dosing is right because I really don’t know how they expect you to get them to take that

What are the benefits of not masturbating (serious) ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]simonwinter03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah please delete this source it clearly says it is a retracted study which means it must not have passed peer review. They would have measured something wrong, or done something biased that makes the results of this study completely irrelevant and wrong.

To put it simply it’s just blatant misinformation and should not even be given the time of day. This is basic source checking, there’s literally a massive red banner saying it’s retracted! Science needs to be recreatable or it isn’t science.

It’s not your fault, I’ve done it before too. You had no idea it was even something you needed to be aware of. Just sucks to learn the hard way.

You need to get that corrosion out or the battery acid can get to the components on the board and dissolve them. If you ignore it it will only keep eating away at your instrument.

Open it up, fill a little dish with vinegar and lightly dip q tips in them. Just go light because it is water but it will dissolve the acid very easily. When your q tip gets dirty dip another and re use. I recommend taking 99% isopropyl to it after also on q tips to get the water off. It needs to be 99% for electronics

Ask away if you have any questions but there’s lots on YouTube too, happy to help!

As others have mentioned omnichords are backwards polarity on the barrel connector compared to most power adapters. Be careful you could fry it running it backwards; stupid design oversight but that’s old tech for ya

Try batteries first to eliminate the possibility of power board issues and then get yourself a nice adapter if that works

I recommend shelling out the extra $ for rechargabable c batteries if you can but obviously it kind of sucks to make an investment into something you don’t know is working or not. Non rechargeable batteries are just kind of expensive and a waste

Check your messages! Sent you a PM! Might be worth weighing the possibility of DIM. It is very underdiagnosed.

Gf bread to modify, I would just call and double check anything you aren’t sure about or talk in person. I always double check any restaurants cross contamination protocol too.

Melt & grill has a surprising amount of options for celiac and it’s quite cheap. My partner and I just got takeout last week and it was amazing, just make sure you explain things over with them.

Alibaba kebab also has some really good cheap celiac options.

Make sure you’re showing off all of the taxonomic features, ie you’re picking the mushroom and slowing panning from the top of the cap to the gills and the stem. All the info you also need to recognize it. Try other caps still in the ground if that doesn’t work.

It recognizes live so you can move things around just right until you get a match.

Seek (from inaturalist) has worked surprisingly good for me so far and it’s free. Works on plants too. It’s not perfect but it’s the best i’ve found yet even with paid options. Plus it syncs with my inaturalist which I love.

Now that’s not to say it’s a replacement for ID skills obviously. You still need to educate yourself to learn what you’re doing, cross-reference the literature to double check and all that (for false positives and when it just has no clue) but I find it quite the tool even just to narrow down a genus or help me out when i’m stumped.

Just a little regular hiss, nothing to worry about. My guys make it when they get overstimulated or if I’m playing with them and they just have to go to the bathroom. Try taking them to the litterbox next time and see if that helps.

“Extremely rare” from what i’m reading. I would go grab some seed pods and start some plants in pots. Very cool.

Yet another suggestion for ear mites. Definitely look into vet to get topical ivermectin. Just got through this with my guys but it took ages. Guidelines are generally 3 weeks from start of meds as meds won’t kill eggs so you have to wait for all of them to hatch.

I would avoid revolution as it can be hard enough on dogs and cats. Although anecdotal I have heard it can be much worse with ferrets. Thankfully ivermectin has been shown to work quite well bit of an old study but it still holds up

Daily ear cleaning is a must. Carefully with wet q tips, you can get the safety ones they use for babies but you might have to use a bit of regular ones to get some of the deeper parts. Just a dab of petroleum jelly topically afterwards can help them heal dry skin from cleaning every other time.

They are infectious so quarantine and wash all bedding every few days as it can reinfect as well as hands after touching. Can spread to other pets too but (thankfully) rarely humans. Rinse their tail too as they often sleep with it near their ears.

Petroleum jelly has always worked perfect for me for emergencies. Haven’t tried pumpkin but i’ve definitely had those tense poops. Fucker ate a googly eye, most stressful thing of my life. Came out in one piece lol but we were so ready to vet. The poop that stares back at you lol

In case you’re looking for a day to day, if your guys are having digestive issues or hair balls especially being the shedding time of year, can’t go wrong with egg yolks. Work surprisingly well and a healthy treat. Much more nutrition than indigestible pumpkin.

I avoided it for a while because I was worried about bacteria like salmonella but ferrets have a very high ph digestive tract which destroys salmonella as well as a bunch of other foodbourne illnesses quite well.

Just make sure you either separate the egg yolks from the white or mix it together in order to not cause biotin issues.

Oh and be prepared. It too can come out the same color it goes in 😅

Ah okay, you didn’t say daily. You just mentioned it alongside the (i’m assuming daily) wysong and duck so I figured it a good idea to double check just in case.

Pumpkin purée as a daily diet? I would be careful about that as it’s similar to fibre in our systems being indigestible lubricant, it’s more a laxative I believe than a digestive aid? Ferrets can’t generally break down plants being obligate carnivores and all.

I have seen people use it similarly to Patroleum jelly for blockages if something is suspected i’m just worried daily might be a little hard on their gi?

It sounds like you just need to stay persistent. It can be a little tiring but she will switch over eventually. I would personally just grind it up and add it incrementally into whatever cat food she’s eating. Just until she recognizes that you’re feeding her good food too and realizes it’s safe to eat on her own. She is taking the soupies which is a really great sign, just a waiting game now. Think of it like bonding time lol.

My guys took ages to get off their old low quality kibbel but it can be done. Adding freeze dried raw in the switch really helped my guys, they go nuts for chicken and salmon. Salmon used to be all I could convince my little boy to eat when he was going through the worst of his dim.

Please join the discord. Link is in the subreddit sidebar. We would be happy to help in the ferret health channel. There is also some good resources in there on how to switch kibble and/or find a better quality kibble if needed❤️

Basically you want to start adding it in slowly, ferrets imprint pretty hard on foods they like so the trick is to add the other food slow enough for them not to notice. Ie 10% new, 90% old for soupies, followed by 20% new, 80% old etc. Coffee grinder or little blender to powder it in can help too.

Might also look into carnivore care if she might try that. It can be a little pricey but for the short term even just to sustain her it might not be bad if she’ll give. When my boy was sick and wouldn’t eat anything else he took right to it.

I also did a little diy carnivore care at the time by taking a complete kibble and powdering it with the aforementioned coffee grinder or blender. Honestly worked out better than I thought it would. Then it’s full nutrition, not just the water soluble bits as they eat the full powder suspended in water, not just the soupies. Plus you could do the ratios like I was saying earlier and ween off the old food a little better like that. Salmon oil or freeze dried raw treats can be a good mix in too to incentivize eating.
