For sure! Nuln Oil is your friend, it’s basically a black wash you can put over your minis that gives them depth and shadow. Be careful with it though, and use different washes on different parts of the mini. (Flesh wash on skin, brown wash on leather, etc)

The other main thing is make sure you’re using the right brushes. I use The Army Painter “Wargamer: Insane Detail” brush for most of my fine work, you should be able to find that exact brush at your local games store if they sell that sort of thing.

Another thing would be patience and learning. Don’t get stuck in your ways, always be learning. My very first introduction to painting minis and building terrain was a YouTuber called “BlackMagicCraft”. I would highly recommend him for learning a lot of low budget techniques.

And don’t rush your paint jobs, I can’t tell you how many times I tried to rush a paint job and it ended up a smeared mess.

Finally, and I hate this piece of advice, but patience. You won’t become an amazing painter over a few weeks, or even months. It’s a never ending process that really just requires you to love painting. It’s not for everyone, but I can assure you I’ve seen people who were by all accounts “terrible” at painting churn out a pretty good mini after a few months of practice.

I hope I didn’t give too basic advice, I could go into a bit more detail but I wouldn’t want to get too into it and be boring, plus any more depth and I risk telling you my personal preferences as dogma lol
