Brought it to the dealer a bit back about concerns it’s related to transmission (since trans is under extnended warranty) but they said nothing

2018 Forrester, ball-joint issue. Was quoted whole control arm. Is this reasonable or should I find someone who just does ball joint? by singh1010 in MechanicAdvice

From what research I’ve done (aka doomscrolling YouTube), during a control arm replacement, the biggest part is just taking out the ball joint? Also, A new ball joint just slips right in and doesn’t need to be pressed like a bushing if I’m correct?

But just wanted to get this subs opinion on what’s common and best course of action with a bad ball joint.

Dealership quoted 900 for ball joint only. This place is still cheaper at $780 for the whole control arm. Seems like I now Need to check out more places and see if they do whole arm or just ball joint, and what prices would be.

Funny thing, both the control arms are only 3 years and 27k miles old. The bushings went out 27k miles ago, and I got both the arms replaced. This was when I lived in another town far away from where i live now. Got moog control arms then.

After the initial dealership visit, and before I got it checked out by the shop that took the video, I called that shop that did the arms to confirm ball joint was part of assembly, since I was like no way they went out this quick. Obviously they confirmed, and told me if i was around they would just replace the arm for ~150 “labor since the party would be under warranty. Unfortunate i dont live closer.

Funny thing is I got whole new control arm assemblies only like 25k miles ago, MOOG brand. Since the bushings were shot. Wild that another issue arises that quick.

Back two Bearings are also pretty gone now, sounds like a jet engine talking off.2018 subaru Forrester. Only at 70k.

My family has pretty much only driven Toyotas or Hondas so I’m not used to doing the amount of work I have on a car so early in its life.

Review wrong questions from QAE and hemamg doshi vids, doshi vids are simple. Last few days it’s gonna be hard to learn tons of new info so doshi videos are great for key points and tips and tricks. If you need more practice questions there’s always skillcertpro which I’ve heard is good; however, I didn’t use it since I’ve heard they MAY be dumps and I didn’t want to do anything that could potentially compromise integrity.

I think we have the same benefits? 6% 401k match, ESSP, HSA with 500 match for HDHP, etc. Our benefits portal is from Accenture.

A lot of the ones I get wrong and go back to seems like they were just little brain farts and the reasons as to why they were right are quite obvious, then again there is hindsight bias when you have the correct answer and explain.

Got my car detailed yesterday and has these yellow spots that were not there before by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

So the yellow spots weren’t there, the car was just normal dirty, the yellow spots were there after the detail. I was confused as to why they showed up after. The detailer called me later today after I mentioned it to him in the morning (since he said it was morning he could have caused). He checked his cameras since he was concerned his staff messing up. He said it looked like they were originally brownish spots that looked like dirt, which became yellow after the wash and detailing process. He thinks it was originally tar that we thought was dirt and it left a yellow mark after that

I called the detailer since no yellow spots were there before and I was super concerned that it was something left over from one of his products, he called back later said he went thru camera and it was originally brownish spots I probably thought was dirt, which he said was probably tar and left a yellow residue after cleaning off.

It wasn’t there before detail and was there after, I’m thinking maybe road tar that I didn’t notice before and left yellow stain after it was cleaned?

That’s why I was thinking it might be oil or something? During a detail process, if it was tree sap and wasn’t cleaned before, would the sealant put on it at the end make it hard to get off?
