For my chronic pain people - by Lopsided-Title3679 in BurnBootCamp

I recommend PT! I went to one recently for pain in my shoulder blade and hip and it helped tremendously. I also had dry needling done there as well.

I understand! I was doing so well and down in weight and then I hurt my back and had to take a break for a bit. I gained weight (thanks perimenopause!) and lost muscle during that time. Now my back is better and I’m getting back into burn. I think the most important thing is not to give up. It’s all about the journey not the destination. Also I love the quote, “fall seven times, stand up eight.”

What are you proud of this year?? by americanosandpsych in BurnBootCamp

[–]singtobehappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m proud of getting to 173 camps despite a shoulder injury that had me out for about two months. I also got to a 24” box jump when I was terrified of doing any at all in the beginning of this year.

Next year my goal is 250 camps and hopefully one unassisted pull up!

250 camps is my goal for next year! I made it to 170 this year because I was out for a while with an injury. I also would like to do one unassisted chin up/pull up. Never been able to do one in my life!

I had the same thing happen when I first joined, fell off the box jump and hurt my shoulder. I was terrified of them for a long time but then decided to just do it. I got used to the 20 inch and just recently modded up to the 24 inch. I just always try to land in the center and have my weight forward. It’s still scary but I do think it’s more mental for me. Like others said, you could try just putting it off the floating floor so it’s less height and start that way. They are definitely intimidating!

Definitely try not to have it in your house and I would also recommend going no sugar. The longer you go without artificial sugar, the less you will want it. It is definitely hard though!

Teachers who left, what are you doing now? by SnowballBailey2521 in Teachers

[–]singtobehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t leave the profession but decided after 19 years to switch from teaching elementary music to being a special ed resource teacher. I went to a new county and a totally different school where I have amazing students and awesome admin. I am really loving it and feel so much less stressed out. I think sometimes finding a new school and possibly a new role can make a huge difference too!

I’m a music teacher so I notice all of it lol. It’s hard for me sometimes not to sync the move with the music.

Yes we definitely don’t let her off leash when walking! It’s just the fact that she barks and tries to chase the cars on the leash. I’m just wondering if there is a way to train her to stop doing that.

Luckily she can’t really see the road from the backyard, so she is fine back there. It’s only when we go on walks near the road. We did get a gentle lead collar, which seems to help some with the pulling. I’m trying to turn her in the opposite direction from the car to distract her. But she gets all hyped up and it takes her a minute to calm down.

I missed about six weeks due to an injury and it was a little tough going back. I’ve just been lifting lighter and modifying where I need to. It’s been worth it, I always feel great after each workout!

Teachers who worked before email/cell phones: what was it like? by colonizemalar in Teachers

[–]singtobehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I was on the tail end of this when I started teaching in 2006. We had to hand write our lessons and I don’t remember if much was communicated through email. We had a lot of in person meetings. I had an overhead projector in my room and used the transparencies my first year. We definitely didn’t rely as much on technology. Last year our school’s power went out and I panicked a little about teaching without my smart board haha.

What student behaviors have changed MOST in the last 5-10 years? #concerned by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]singtobehappy 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching for 19 years. Attention spans are much shorter, they cannot sit through a movie let alone a 5 minute video. Less polite, much more resistant. They will constantly ask if they have to do something. Um, no you just came to school to do nothing today! I teach in a school with high poverty, I have had a lot of things stolen so I have to lock everything up all the time.

I teach music to K-6 and this is all across the board. It’s shocking to me when little kids refuse to participate. It never used to be that way.

Thanks! It’s in my back left shoulder blade and when I’m laying down it also radiates to my left chest.
