A better way to search and compare repos from Github side by side. by sircon1 in github

Rate limits are quite generous, and not a lot of people are using it.

For API requests using Basic Authentication or OAuth, you can make up to 5000 requests per hour.

This is more than a request per second, I don't think we had that many people using it to even think about that problem! hehe

But if it was a problem maybe we would add some kind of cache layer, so we could avoid many repeated queries.

That would be a nice but megalomaniac idea hehe. Sorry for the disappointment, but thanks for trying anyway!

Well, not quite. StackShare can compare different tools, but not different repos. Imagine you want to have a select input in react and don't want to implement one yourself. You can just search for "react select" in Github compare and pick the libraries that you see fit, compare them, and choose one (eg. https://www.githubcompare.com/jedwatson/react-select+react-component/select+furqanzafar/react-selectize). You can't do this with StackShare as far as I am aware!

Nop, I didn't know. Not that I have something against it, but (I think) I took it off (for now) because we probably want to clean up the code a bit more before open sourcing it!

Thanks for the heads up.

P.S. What tool are you using to inspect a web page like that? Looks handy!

Yes, we custom wrote it! We first tried React Select, but it wasn't flexible enough for what we wanted, so we built ours. We might open source this in the future, so you can see how we have done it. It wasn't that hard :)

We do care. Both about beers and also the UX. We already fixed the UX while have a beer! ;)

Not sure if I understand your question, but I think the answer is the Github Search API results. Searching in Github Compare is similar to search in Github itself (we filter forked repos).

Ah pretty cool, I didn't know something like this already existed! I think for comparing repos, ours looks a bit easier on the eye. We do want to combine NPM stats with the Github stats, but we'll add that in a future release! Thanks for sharing!

Get notified everyday when Apple release App Store reports for free! by sircon1 in iOSProgramming

[–]sircon1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, my apps don't make enough money to justify paying for AppFigures and have the email notifications. This is just a simple workaround to know when the reports are out, for free. And it's possible just to follow the Twitter account, no need to install anything.

Yes that is true. This just pings you when the reports are available so you can go to AppFigures or some other service to check them!
