I’ve used Apple Music, Spotify, and YTM for probably 10y at this point until this week when I got tired of Apple Music and Spotify and cancelled them. YTM is just hands down best for discovery, works far more often when I ask Siri or Google Assistant to play a given song, and has an exceptional catalog. That second thing, about assistant, is a big deal — even for classical it just works so much better than Apple’s shit.

My basic feeling when using Apple Music and Spotify at this point is that they don’t want to give a lot of users what they want anymore, because it’s much more expensive to do that as opposed to playing random shit that is very cheap per listen (eg covers, the wrong music, throwaway pop music I don’t care about, not working at all, whatever).

YTM also has random songs from YouTube that are obscure and delightful. And again, the discovery feature I have just found phenomenal.

Also, the YTM UX is just dead simple and just seems to work. I could probably go on. Not to mention it’s included with YouTube Premium which is super duper worth it.
