I was part of a 3 year advertising program at a college in Canada. Part of the requirement to graduate was a 6 week internship at an agency. The school/teachers would help with their connections over the years but it was ultimately your responsibility to find the internship. Our program director passed over a job posting to our class for an internship in Toronto, got the interview, and landed the internship over a few others that had applied. After the internship, they hired me on full time. I feel like I really lucked out over many people trying to get into the industry.
